What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Technician (Rosen) position at NEOMED?
The Rosen Lab seeks a highly motivated Research Technician to help us investigate the effects of stress and hearing loss on auditory perception and the brain. Responsibilities include regular handling and behavioral testing of Mongolian gerbils, performing neurophysiological recordings and cellular biology experiments, organizing data, maintaining a breeding colony, and aiding in basic laboratory management. Additional responsibilities based on experience may include small animal surgeries, data analysis, and/or Matlab programming (these would be concomitant with a higher pay grade). The qualified applicant must have comfort with animal handling, strong organizational skills, basic computer skills, and the ability to work independently and conduct multiple experiments simultaneously.

Principal Functional Responsibilities
1) Handling (e.g., behavioral experiments) and treatment (e.g., injections) of small animals
2) Data collection using behavioral and neurophysiological techniques, including surgical preparation and mechanical construction of electrode implants
3) Organization and routine analysis of data (may include writing / modifying Matlab scripts)
4) Routine animal care and animal colony maintenance, including record keeping
5) General laboratory maintenance and management, including lab cleanliness and safety
6) Ordering of equipment and supplies and maintaining lab purchasing records

Qualifications
Education/Degrees:
Bachelor’s degree or working towards a bachelor’s degree in science such as Neuroscience, Biology, or Psychology with emphasis on research techniques and animal models.
Experience:
At least one year of research experience working with rodents preferred.
The ability to work independently preferred.

Physical Requirements
Ability to collect and analyze experimental data and handle animals. Must be able to utilize applicable laboratory equipment necessary for the job, as well as basic office equipment. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, sit, talk, and hear. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
