What You’ll Do:
Appellate Support and Document Management
- Draft, proofread, and format appellate briefs, motions, and records for state and federal courts
- Prepare and file notices of appeal, informational statements, and supporting motion papers
- Create and manage Tables of Authorities and Contents, ensuring compliance with court formatting requirements
- File documents via NYSCEF, PACER, and CM/ECF; ensure proper service to all relevant parties
- Prepare and distribute correspondence to clients, insurance carriers, opposing counsel, and court staff
- Submit orders with notice of entry and manage requests for extensions of time when necessary
- Serve as the primary point of contact with the appellate printer
- Oversee deadlines for the production and filing of briefs and reply briefs, ensuring timely delivery
- Track and report on oral arguments, decisions, and court scheduling updates
- Communicate with the Clerk of the Appellate Division regarding case status and procedural issues
Required Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of legal experience, with direct exposure to appellate litigation
- Familiarity with state and federal appellate procedures and filing standards
- Proficiency in PACER, CM/ECF, and NYSCEF electronic filing systems
- Solid understanding of appellate formatting rules, court deadlines, and legal citation standards
- Demonstrated experience preparing Tables of Authorities and Tables of Contents
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines
- Work with a well-established and respected litigation firm known for its medical malpractice expertise
