Job Title: Cytogenetic Technologist
Location: Charlotte, NC
Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 12:30 PM - 9:00 PM (Rotating On-Call and Holiday Coverage)
Job Summary:
The Cytogenetic Technologist will perform laboratory tasks including specimen processing, slide preparation, staining, karyotyping, and FISH analysis. The role involves ensuring specimen integrity, performing complex cytogenetic procedures, and maintaining quality control. This position requires expertise in cytogenetics, specimen processing, and laboratory technology, and will contribute to ongoing research and development in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform specimen set-up, harvesting, slide preparation, and staining.
- Conduct microscopic analysis and ensure accuracy in documenting chromosomal findings.
- Operate automated karyotyping and FISH equipment.
- Manage record keeping and laboratory inventory.
- Participate in quality control and maintenance of lab apparatus.
- Coordinate and implement new laboratory procedures and training for new staff.
- Stay informed on developments in cytogenetics research and perform validation studies as necessary.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Science or related field.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) or Cytogenetic Technologist (ASCP) required.
- Experience in high-complexity clinical laboratory testing, especially cytogenetics.
- Strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and the ability to work with biohazardous materials.
