What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Education Director position at New Haven Reads?
Job Summary: Assist the Education Director in maintaining an effective literacy tutoring program consistent with the mission and vision of New Haven Reads while creating a warm, welcoming and supportive learning environment.
Major Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
Program Support –
- Assist with the design, development, and implementation of programs rooted in the Science of Reading and structured literacy instruction
- Support program staff by way of regular site visits to all locations during tutoring hours
- Conduct student observations and model tutor best practices
- Attend PPT meetings as needed
- Interview candidates for college positions (Yale Reading Corps, Summer Interns)
- Assist with CORE Testing
- Assist with Tutor Trainings, minimum of 3 per academic year
- Work collaboratively with the Pre-K/K Program Director to plan curriculum, support staff, communicate with parents, and register students
Communication –
- Effective, timely, and professional communication with students, parents, staff, and school officials
- Partnership Liaison: manage existing relationships with and request for services from schools and community organizations
- Maintain all staff contact lists and support securing coverage staff absences
Administration –
- Attend individual weekly meetings with Site Directors, Outreach team and Literacy Specialist and provide follow-up supports as needed
- Maintain the Salesforce Wait List for Pre-K/K and Tutoring
- Maintain all calendars related to the Education program
- Assist in the maintenance of confidential Education Admin documents on Box
- Maintain all required data related to Yale Reading Corps and Summer Interns, as well as other affiliate groups or university internships
- Monitor accuracy and timeliness of data and reporting associated with Planning and Placement Team meetings (PPTs) in Salesforce and student information in Lexia
- Creation of Site Director meeting agendas
- Support development and presentation of staff development and tutor enrichment workshops
And other duties as assigned by the Education Director.
This position requires:
- College degree in area of Education with preferred specialization in structured literacy
- 2-3 years of experience working with children in an underserved academic setting
- Ability to organize, analyze, and problem solve
- Attention to detail while working in a busy, shared workspace
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize with limited supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Flexible interpersonal skills and professional poise
- Sensitivity to confidential student information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Spanish Fluency, preferred
Hours:
- 11am-7pm, Monday-Wednesday
- 10am-6pm, Thursday & Friday
- Occasional Saturday hours
- Schedule may vary based upon need
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range: $54,000-$56,000, commensurate with experience
- Medical Benefits: $3,000 reimbursable health care costs through Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement (QSERHA)
- 5 weeks (130 hours) of Paid Time Off (PTO) and 9 paid Holidays
