What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Nurse - Occupational and Medical position at NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE AUTHORITY?

Works under the general supervision of the Turnpike Physician in liaison with the Director of Human Resources to provide for the health needs of all Turnpike employees in order to maintain a work force at maximum efficiency.

1. Assists in performing pre-employment, periodic, and return to work physical examinations, and in so doing obtains medical histories, performs all laboratory studies, electrocardiograms, and preliminary physical work ups.

2. Prepares schedules for periodic examinations, keeping employees and Departments notified of these schedules, and executes related paperwork necessary to complement this program.

3. Responsible for maintaining a medical file on all Turnpike personnel, and performs all follow-ups necessary to preventative health services offered to employees. Prepares schedule of, and orders supplies for, the preventative health programs and accompanies Turnpike Physician in the field assisting in their administration.

4. Assists to administer the temporary disability program through preparing letters of notifications to employees and forwards weekly payments to those in this status. Conducts follow-up of employee’s progress while on temporary disability, contacting physicians where necessary.

5. Prepares reports on all employees treated in the Medical Section, maintains records pertaining to absences due to illness for all employees, and furnishes monthly and year-end summary reports of visits to medical section.

6. Performs all nursing duties as related to occupational nursing, orders all medical supplies as required, sets up programs for employee educational films, checks medical equipment periodically, arranging for repair if required, and is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the dispensary.

7. Keeps informed of new nursing and treatment methods, new drugs; and assists the physician in adapting their use to industrial medicine. Prepares annual medical budget and functions as secretary to the physician and when needed assists in personnel and related matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Registered professional nurse with current active license
  • 5 years of Emergency Room or Critical Care background
  • Case Management experience a plus
  • Certification in Occupational Health a plus

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $53,000.00 - $86,000.00 per year
