The Family Health Bureau (FHB) works to improve the health of women, children and families in New Mexico through policy, surveillance, assurance, and direct services provided to reproductive age women, infants, children, adolescents and their families, including children and youth with special healthcare needs. The staff in the bureau work to bring federal funds to New Mexico and provide guidance and oversight of program services provided in the regional health offices. The Bureau has six program areas including: Children's Medical Services (CMS), Family Planning (Title X), Farmers' Market Nutrition Program, Maternal & Child Health (MCH), and Maternal & Child Health Epidemiology.
Why does the job exist?
This position serves as the accountant and auditor for the Family Health Bureau's administration team, which includes but is not limited to supporting managers with contracts process, tracking budgets and payroll, purchasing, paying invoices, creating travel documents, compiling financial reports for the Bureau, and verifying compliance to new accounting processes. The position may also provide support and guidance for all of FHB¿s programs in the financial tracking and monitoring of various grants, and contract compliance of the Bureau. Some of these tasks include creating purchase orders for rent, budget projections, submitting budget adjustments and journal entries, and reviewing payroll reports. Additional duties for this position involve working as the Safety Officer for the bureau, and monitoring training for bureau staff.
How does it get done?
SHARE is used in all financial and accounting reports and tracking including requisitions, purchase orders, payments, travel, encumbrances, JE's, I-BARS, TPID, rent calculations, paying invoices, and purchasing.
The auditing of all financial and contractual documents is accomplished though comprehensive review of documents using SHARE financial, Excel, and checklists.
Tracking and monitoring of budgets is completed using SHARE reporting, verifying expenditures per grant period, and assuring contractual compliance with procurement, assuring accurate account codes and fiscal year federal spend down. Excel and SHARE are used in the production of program outcome data reports monthly, quarterly, and annually.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will a) have excellent knowledge and experience using Excel including pivot tables, b) have a working knowledge of the SHARE financial system, c) possess strong communication and customer service skills, d) have excellent organizational skills, and e) be a team player.
Minimum Qualification
High School or Equivalency and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, and/or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal and extensive personal computer and telephone usage. It requires extended periods of sitting and may need to lift up to 25 pounds. It also could require occasional in-state travel.
