Job Summary
NMA is seeking a reliable and student-focused Building Substitute Teacher to provide consistent classroom coverage and support across grade levels throughout the school year. This role plays a key part in maintaining instructional continuity and supporting the daily operations of the school by stepping in for absent teachers and assisting with classroom supervision and learning activities as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Coverage

Provide instructional support in classrooms when the regular teacher is absent.

Deliver lesson plans left by the classroom teacher, maintaining classroom routines and expectations.

Adapt instruction when necessary to meet the needs of all learners.

Maintain a positive, structured, and culturally responsive classroom environment.
Student Supervision & Support

Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional times (e.g., recess, lunch, dismissal).

Support students academically and behaviorally throughout the day.

Redirect student behavior and implement school-wide expectations and interventions when needed.
Team Support & Flexibility

Provide coverage across multiple grade levels and content areas as assigned.

Support with classroom setup, small group instruction, and other duties as requested by school leaders.

Serve as a consistent presence in the school community to build trust with students and staff.
Communication & Documentation

Leave notes for classroom teachers regarding student progress and classroom events.

Communicate professionally with staff, students, and families when necessary.

Maintain confidentiality of student information and follow school protocols.
Qualifications
Required
-
Bachelors Degree or equivalent
- Current or eligible for substitute teacher license

Ability to work Monday–Friday during school hours

Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills

Passion for working with children and supporting a positive school culture

Flexibility and willingness to adapt to daily needs of the school
Preferred

Bachelor’s degree or enrollment in an education-related program

Experience working in schools or youth programs

Familiarity with diverse learners, including ELLs and students with IEPs
