What are the responsibilities and job description for the Activity Assistant position at New Richland Care Center?
Assists the Activity Director in the overall operation of the Activity Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines & regulations, NRCC established policies & procedures, and as may be directed by the Activity Director. This is to assure that an on-going program of activities designed to meet in accordance with each residents care plan, their interests, physical, mental & psychosocial well being is maintained.
You must possess patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm for the Activity Department programs. Have the ability to create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout the facility, must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position relating to and working with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people within the facility, must be able to read, write and speak the English language in an understandable manner and be a minimum of 16 years of age and posses a 10th grade education.
You will be assisting in developing, implementing and maintaining an ongoing quality assurance program in the form of Sensory and 1-1 activities for the residents. Perform required administrative duties, such as completing necessary forms, reports and daily recording on all residents, assure that all activity progress notes charted are informative and descriptive of services provided and of resident's response. Make monthly written and oral reports/recommendations to the Activity Director concerning the activities and operations of the department with scheduling movies, planning parties, providing games/crafts/baking and other cognitive related activities. Assist the Activity Director in developing preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the activity needs of each resident and the goals to be accomplished for each need identified. Serve on, participate in and attend various committees of the facility along with assist in evaluating and implementing recommendations from established committees as they may pertain to the department and its services. Incorporate new methods and ideas. Communicate and coordinate activities with other departments as necessary. Supervise, enthusiastically participate and assist in scheduled and unscheduled activities, Sensory, 1-1 programs while encouraging resident's participation. Inform, invite and transfer residents to and from activities as needed. Participate in and assist in departmental studies and projects as assigned or that may become necessary. Ensure department work areas are maintained in a clean, sanitary and safe manner. Check supplies to assure that needed supplies are on hand to perform assigned tasks and activities, alerting in writing any supplies needed to the Activity Director in a timely manner. Be prepared to handle emergencies as they arise whether it be facility/weather related emergencies or rescheduling work assignments, work schedules, reduction in hours, increase in hours, working beyond normal scheduled hours, holidays in other positions temporarily when necessary or assigned. Begin work promptly at the beginning of your shift and start all scheduled activities on time as scheduled. Be prepared to function independently with effective flexibility and personal integrity with residents, personnel and support agencies.
Education & physical requirements (with or without the aid of mechanical devices): will be required to attend all educational meetings provided and complete all mandatory in-services in a timely fashion (on or before deadlines). Training will be provided for any new procedures or policies that are adopted, including the use of the computers and software that NRCC uses for resident record keeping. Physical demands include bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, squatting, kneeling, climbing heights with the use of a step stool and/or ladder, lifting up to 25 lbs., standing for long periods of time, walking and a good sense of balance, use of hands for repetitive action of both hands, simple and firm grasping. This position does not involve contact with blood/body fluids; but could result in performing tasks which may involve exposure to blood/body fluids, should the position be modified to include exposure to blood/body fluids, you will be offered free of charge the Hepatitis B vaccination.
