Duties Description
Under the direction of the Park Manager overseeing maintenance and operations at Olana and Clermont State Historic Sites, the candidate will perform a variety of maintenance and operations duties at both facilities, including but not limited to:
- Routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment.
- Assist in the tree maintenance, including evaluation, pruning, felling, and removal of trees using a chainsaw, bucket truck, and chipper.
- Assist in the maintenance of buildings and grounds by performing semi-skilled maintenance and repairs in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and masonry.
- Building and repairing roads, paths, benches, trails, and park equipment.
- During the winter months, the employee will assist with snow removal and shoveling.
- Recordkeeping of daily maintenance, purchasing, and related matters, as well as training, assigning, and supervising subordinate staff.
- Assistance in emergency situations.
- Occasional assistance with maintenance and operations at other State Park facilities as needed.
- Assist with additional duties related to the routine maintenance of water treatment systems.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.

- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as with others.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.
- Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor, including medium-heavy lifting and using step ladders.
- Ability to work outdoors year-round.
