Position Summary
The Internal Auditor is responsible for executing evaluations of: internal controls, financial and management reporting, operational effectiveness, and business systems. Also, delivering written and oral presentation of findings to Company management.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate key risk areas to define audit scope, objectives, and audit approach, from planning to execution of audit engagements
- Communicate project status, audit results, and process improvements to management and key stakeholders through formal meetings and written deliverables
- Serve as an auditor-in-charge for complex audit assignments by:
- Planning, scoping, developing and executing customized audit programs for the processes being reviewed
- Executing, reviewing, approving, and finalizing audit work papers completed by audit staff and consultants. Ensuring audit work papers are clear and concise and comply with IIA standards and internal policies and procedures Responsible for day to day coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback
- Present findings and recommendations to management on a timely basis
- Assist in managing budgeted hours
Requirements
- 3 years of public accounting and/or private industry Internal Audit in financial, operational, or compliance auditing (within financial services industry; mortgage experience preferred)
- Experience with and understanding of Internal Auditing standards
- Proficient in audit methodology, including a strong understanding of risk assessment and control processes
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Ability to analyze complex processes and to determine the efficiency and effectiveness of the process and related controls.
- Experience with and understanding of Internal Auditing standards, COSO, and Risk Assessment practices
- Understanding of internal control concepts and experience in applying them to plan, perform, manage, and report on the evaluation of various business processes/areas/functions
- Experience in presenting information to all levels of an organization, including the ability to sell ideas and obtain management buy-in for constructive change.
- Desire to learn and teach others, high energy, positive attitude
- Highly motivated self-starter with ability to prioritize work and complete assignments within time constraints and deadlines
- Prior Mortgage banking industry experience a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Technology
- CPA or CIA designation is desired.
