SUMMARY:

The intervention teacher is responsible for providing tiered instruction and support to students who are demonstrating lagging skills in the areas of literacy or math to build foundational skills and address any gaps in learning. The intervention teacher will utilize data literacy skills to collaboratively review data, group students for targeted support, and plan and facilitate interventions. A core feature of the position involves the use of progress monitoring tools within intervention cycles to measure student progress over time.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • A current teaching license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
  • Familiarity and experience with evidence-based literacy interventions in phonemic awareness, phonics, orthographic mapping fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
  • Current knowledge of research and effective practices in the areas of mathematics development, instruction, and assessment
  • Knowledge of and experience with culturally-responsive instructional practices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and flexible, responsive work style


Desired Qualifications :

  • Three or more years of recent experience teaching at the elementary level
  • DESE reading licensure and/or mathematics 1-6 licensure is preferred
  • Experience collaborating and problem solving with teachers
  • Familiarity and experience utilizing data management systems
  • Ability to collect and analyze student learning data to inform decisions about instruction
  • Commitment to creating equitable learning experiences for all students using Culturally Responsive Instruction and Universal Design for Learning practices
  • Ability to build professional relationships with teachers that inspire teacher trust, self-reflection and collaboration
  • Motivated self-starter who can work independently as well as collaboratively with teachers, staff and other coaches
  • Effective time management skills
  • Strong communication skills

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):

  • Work cooperatively and collaboratively with other professionals across content areas in planning instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
  • Provide and support math assessment and data analysis
  • Provide and support literacy assessment and data analysis
  • Use data in collaboration with classroom teachers to identify students for intervention
  • Provide direct instruction and targeted intervention to students below benchmark in math or literacy
  • Meet regularly with building based literacy specialists and math coaches
  • Prepare lessons using identified evidence-based programs for intervention work with small groups of students
  • Uses progress monitoring software to track student progress within intervention cycles, utilizing data-based decision-making to adjust interventions as student need dictates
  • Attends professional learning relevant to job duties, and maintains a strong working knowledge of current research, trends in evidence-based practices, and resources related to district goals
  • Consistent, reliable, and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students
  • Responsible for implementing “other job related duties” as needed

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

Work Environment :

  • Majority of work is performed in a school/classroom environment. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Rarely absent or late unless the situation is of an emergency nature.

Physical Requirements :

  • While performing the duties of this job the teacher is frequently required to kneel, stoop, bend, and crouch. The teacher is periodically required to stand; while talking and listening. The teacher is occasionally required to sit; walk; lift; or carry.
