Position Summary

The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist provides oversight of the interdisciplinary treatment team and the master treatment plan through effective collaboration, ongoing assessment, and active psychiatric treatment in accordance with the established inpatient program for Children and Adolescents with co-occurring psychiatric and medical disorders.

Job-specific Responsibilities

  • Develops, monitors, and documents individualized psychiatric treatment goals and objectives for each patient as part of the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
  • Provides evidence-based psychopharmacological management and monitors other clinical therapeutic interventions in accordance with the patient's interdisciplinary treatment plan and the behavioral health program.
  • Provides oversight, directly supervises, and appropriately staffs the patient caseload of the psychiatric nurse practitioners providing care in the program.
  • Provides and shares on-call coverage by phone with the Nexus Physician Group for psychiatric emergencies to patients admitted to the Nexus Health System
  • Provide timely and adequate orders, documentation, and attestations of all patient encounters.
  • Effectively collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team, which consists of physicians, physical rehabilitation therapists, psychotherapists, case management, nursing and other clinical support services to formulate the treatment plan and assess the ongoing effectiveness of the interventions.
  • Provides oversight and collaborates with the Psychotherapy Behavioral Health Services Director to ensure the program adheres to its guidelines and provides effective care to the patients in the program.
  • Provides recommendations and actively participates in discharge planning and transition from the hospital to the next level of care.
  • Participates in ongoing program development meetings to assess the efficacy of current programs and makes recommendations for treatment fidelity.
  • Participate and lead regularly scheduled team conferences with the interdisciplinary team for all patients in the program.
  • Provide staff members formally and informally with psychoeducation and other effective clinical strategies for caring for individuals with behavioral and medical issues.
  • Meet with hospital leadership weekly to review program and future developments
  • Attend meetings with guardians, referral sources, and payers on a regular basis to improve patient outcomes and coordinate discharge planning
  • Complete billing sheets and physician time logs on a weekly basis and provide them to the hospital administrator
  • Perform review of prospective patients for admission
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of medicine

Experience

  • Minimum two years direct care experience with adolescents and children with leadership experience is preferred

Licensure/Certification

  • Must be licensed as a Psychiatrist in the State of Texas.
  • Board Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Must be certified in CPR if applicable.
  • Must maintain current licensure in good standing during employment with this facility.
