Position Summary

The Manager of Behavioral Therapy Services provides strategic and clinical leadership for behavior analytic services. This includes direct patient care, oversight of Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBAs), and compliance with Behavioral Analyst Certification Board (BACB) standards. The Manager fosters a culture of clinical excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Service

oAdheres to all Nexus Health Systems policies on Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI)

oCollaborates effectively with colleagues and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.

oImplement system strategic plan and advise on service development for behavioral health programs.

oRepresent behavioral services in executive leadership forums and cross-functional initiatives.

oPromote ethical leadership, transparency, and service excellence across teams.

  • Clinical Excellence

oDeliver direct patient care using evidence-based ABA practices, including conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).

oMaintain a clinical caseload to ensure relevance and connection to frontline practice.

oActively support and participate in Multidisciplinary Treatment Planning (MTP) meetings to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.

oApply BACB’s Professional and Ethical Compliance Code and ensure all interventions are within the BCBA’s scope of competence.

oDevelop behavioral programming and services in alignment with system program goals.

oForecast staffing needs and optimize clinical workforce deployment.

oOversee creation and revision of departmental policies and procedures.

oOversee integration of clinical documentation and data systems.

oCollaborate with other departments to ensure coordinated, interdisciplinary care.

oDirect behavioral crisis response and ensure timely incident management.

oPrepare strategic reports and present operational insights to senior leadership.

oProvide supervision to the behavioral therapy department.

oProvide structured, competency-based supervision to RBTs in accordance with BACB’s RBT Supervision Requirements.

oEnsure supervision includes direct observation of service delivery, performance feedback, and modeling of appropriate behavior analytic procedures.

oMaintain accurate documentation of supervision activities, including frequency, content, and outcomes, as required by BACB standards.

oConduct regular performance evaluations and support RBTs in professional development and ethical practice.

oEnsure RBTs operate within their defined scope and receive ongoing training aligned with client needs and organizational goals.

  • Patient Experience and Advocacy

oEnsure behavioral interventions are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and patient-centered.

oAdvocate for patient rights and dignity in all aspects of care.

oEstablish feedback loops with patients and families to inform service improvements.

oDeliver parent/guardian education consistently throughout the patient’s stay and at the point of discharge to ensure continuity of care and informed support.

  • Quality Assurance and Compliance

oEnsures all activities adhere to healthcare regulations and organizational policies.

oParticipates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.

oPromotes a culture of patient safety which results in the identification and reduction of unsafe practices.

oEnsure compliance with BACB supervision requirements, including supervision training and documentation standards.

oLead audits, incident reviews, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

oMonitor clinical outcomes and adjust programs based on data and stakeholder feedback.

oMaintain documentation and reporting in accordance with BACB, HIPAA, and regulatory standards.

  • Professional Growth and Continuing Education

oCompletes annual education requirements.

oMaintains competency, as evidenced by completion of competency validation requirements.

oMaintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments.

oParticipates in relevant workshops, seminars, and continuing education courses to stay current with industry trends, healthcare regulations, and best practices.

oProvide structured supervision and mentorship for RBTs, BCaBAs, and BCBAs in training, following BACB fieldwork and supervision guidelines.

oDevelop and implement training programs aligned with BACB’s Supervisor Training Curriculum Outline.

oFoster a learning environment that supports certification, licensure, and leadership development.

  • Finance

oPromotes stewardship of hospital resources while ensuring quality patient care.

oDevelop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

oAnalyze cost-effectiveness of clinical programs and recommend resource allocation strategies.

oIdentify opportunities for revenue generation through service expansion.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, or a related field required.
  • Doctoral degree in Applied Behavioral Analysis, Psychology, or related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a practicing BCBA, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical program development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and staff supervision.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and across multiple service settings.
  • Experience working with pediatric, adolescent, or neurodevelopmental populations is preferred.

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, ideally in a hospital or clinical environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of ABA principles, clinical assessment, and intervention design.

Licensure/Certification

  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification
  • Must be certified in AHA BLS/CPR
  • Deescalation Training
