Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Tax Associate in our Macomb Office. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of tax regulations and accounting principles, with the ability to assist clients in navigating their tax obligations efficiently. This role requires excellent analytical skills and a commitment to providing high-quality service to our clients.
Responsibilities
The Tax Associate will be responsible for preparing and filing accurate federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, small businesses, and/or corporate clients. This role involves working closely with clients and internal staff to gather necessary documentation, provide guidance on tax-saving strategies, and ensure timely filing in accordance with IRS and state guidelines. This individual will also be responsible for opening and closing the office during the off-peak season. There is an opportunity for Full Time hours during the extended tax season (February through June)
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and file federal & state tax returns for individuals and/or business clients
- Analyze financial information to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with tax laws
- Conduct client interviews to gather relevant tax documentation and clarify financial details
- Stay current with IRS regulations, tax law changes, and compliance requirements
- Identify potential deductions and credits to minimize tax liabilities
- Respond to IRS and state agency notices on behalf of clients as needed
- Maintain secure and organized digital records of tax documents and client interactions
- Collaborate with accounting staff during tax season and year-end close
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax codes and accounting principles
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- High level of integrity and respect for confidential information
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
Preferred Skills:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in tax preparation (1040, 1120, 1120S, 1065, etc.)
- Proficiency with tax preparation software (e.g., Drake, Lacerte, ProSeries, or similar)
