What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Service Worker position at NINOS INC?
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have no criminal record or criminal charges pending
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with liability insurance
- Must be able to speak, read and write English
- Must have or be willing to obtain First Aide/CPR certification
- Must have a clear TB and physical examination before first day of employment
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Must have 60 credit hours of college with emphasis in social service area and/or one year experience in social services
- Must be skilled in data entry
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Have an associate's degree in social services or related field
- Be enrolled in a program leading to a baccalaureate degree in social services or related field
- Be Bilingual able or willing to learn to speak, read and write English and Spanish
- Be a local resident of Cameron or Willacy County
- Be a person sensitive to the needs of the poor and disadvantaged
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts outreach and recruitment efforts to inform families of the Head Start/Early Head Start Program and its requirements.
- Recruit and enroll/waitlist at least 50 children a year for the Head Start and Early Head Start program in Cameron and Willacy Counties
- Completes Head Start/Early Head Start enrollment applications and ensure that appropriate and accurate information is reported
- Enters all family services and classroom data for all assigned families in the web-based child tracking software (ChildPlus) on a weekly basis
- Maintains accurate documentation of services provided, referrals, family goal attainment, and follow-up
- Conducts home visits to develop strength-based assessments, Family Partnership Agreements and Individualized Family Plans for every family on your assigned caseload and provide follow-up in a timely manner
- Assists families in accessing community health resources to ensure that all children's health requirements are met
- Completes appropriate health referrals, documenting completion of Health-related follow-up and advocacy in a timely manner.
- Provides regular assistance in reducing barriers that keep parents from attending monthly Parent Committee and Policy Council Meetings and promote and support parent involvement.
- Refers families to community agencies according to family needs and provide timely follow-up.
- Establishes and maintains ongoing, up-to-date, community partnerships to assist families in accessing crisis/emergency, and community resources and services (i.e. food, clothing, shelter, counseling, job training)
- Communicates with parents of assigned classes at least once a week.
- Conducts home-visits (virtual if necessary) to address attendance, documentation requirements, or other service delivery area needs. Prepares and submits weekly schedules and monthly reports in a timely manner.
- When necessary will be expected to attend staff training through pre-service and in-service workshops
- Supports the efforts of Head Start families in the enhancement of their children's healthy wellbeing and academic success
- Performs any other duties assigned by supervisor relative to program operations.
- Works on weekends, holidays, and/or evenings on especial assigned projects and/or tasks on request of the Executive/Head Start Director
