Job Summary
Noank Community Support Services is seeking a Direct Care Staff Resident Advisor, to provide support and general supervision while overseeing the therapeutic milieu and day-to-day functioning of residential clients. This is an "awake" position providing staff coverage during all shifts including holidays, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Role Overview
The Resident Advisor maintains a safe and healthy therapeutic environment with support from the clinical treatment team. The role focuses on the meaning of behavior and trauma histories of the residents while implementing individual treatment programs and crisis plans.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Daily Resident Support: Supervise and assist residents with nutritious meal planning, shopping, preparation, housekeeping, and personal hygiene.
- Health & Medication: Administer medication under DCF guidelines and provide access to medical care, including first aid and transportation to appointments.
- Goal Support: Support residents’ educational plans, vocational goals, and employment efforts.
- Mentorship & Safety: Lead discussion groups to resolve conflicts, model constructive communication, and adhere to Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) practices to maintain a harm-free environment.
- Documentation: Complete daily and monthly reports, as well as critical incident paperwork, in an accurate and timely manner.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education & Experience: An Associate’s Degree in a human service field and experience working with behaviorally challenged and at-risk adolescents. High school diploma/GED will be considered with experience.
- Core Knowledge: Familiarity with Trauma Theory, Female Development, and relational strength-based approaches.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in the use of Microsoft 365, web-based platforms, and Adobe PDF.
- Transportation: A current valid driver’s license, use of a safe and roadworthy vehicle, and proof of suitable automobile insurance are required.
- Certifications: Upon hire or shortly thereafter, employees must present valid certifications in DCF Medication Administration, CPR, First Aid, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), and Risking Connections.
- Background Checks: Must pass national (fingerprint), state police, CT DCF protective service, and motor vehicle background checks, and provide proof of physical and negative PPD results.
