Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Safety and Security Specialist, the Safety and Security Manager employs safety and security measures to protect the wellbeing of NOLA-PS visitors and staff members from harm and NOLA-PS facilities from loss or damage. This individual enforces the laws of the State on School Board property as well as a two-block area surrounding the building premises.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Patrols buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry etc.;
- Maintains security of parking lots as well as the immediate areas adjacent to the buildings;
- Investigates all security related complaints and secure buildings at the request of the Safety and Security Specialist;
- Reports any unusual conditions on the grounds and make appropriate recommendations to the Senior Safety Officer/Designee;
- Responds to the building requests in emergency situations relative to security related matters;
- Prepares security reports on ALL incidents that occurs while on duty involving weapons, narcotics, assaults, theft, etc. and to furnish same to the Safety and Security Specialist/Designee for dissemination immediately;
- Maintains a current knowledge of the school’s rules and regulations;
- Enforces all City, State, and Federal Laws within a two-block radius of the building site;
- Makes arrests as appropriate;
- Notifies the Safety and Security Specialist/Designee on duty immediately when a serious incident occurs and forwards all others by the next working day;
- Monitors, reports, and takes appropriate action on safety violations;
- Maintains post directives as assigned;
- Works as a response unit member handling special needs within the Orleans Parish School District;
- Works in identified areas which are in need of security for specific purposes; and
- Performs other duties as required.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalency required;
- 3 years’ experience required;
- 48 hours of college credits preferred.
Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
- Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver’s License;
- Eligibility or completion of a major law enforcement academy preferred;
- Expertise in area of specialization;
- Minimum of 2 years of law enforcement experience or comparable private security experience;
- Successful completion of a major law enforcement academy preferred;
- Licensed to carry a firearm; Knowledge of law enforcement and safety practices;
- Must be qualified in the use of a .38 caliber revolver or other weapons that meet the standards of the Safety, Security and Investigations Department;
- Must possess excellent writing and verbal skills;
- Physical ability to affect arrest under difficult circumstances;
- Post certification preferred;
- Must pass drug screening test;
- All applicants must be able to work flexible hours and workday assignments.

Performance Evaluation
The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,400.00 - $64,920.00 per year
