What are the responsibilities and job description for the Program Advocate-Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence position at NORA?
Position Summary
As part of the Client Care Services team and under direct supervision of the Program Manager, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (DV/SA) Advocate will provide 24/7 confidential crisis response and support services to domestic violence and sexual assault survivors and their families. This includes the assessment and addressing of immediate and or safety needs of clients and providing appropriate and effective intervention, client intakes, assistance with Temporary Restraining Orders, safety planning, case management, 24/7 hospital, law enforcement and court advocacy and accompaniment. In addition, the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Advocate will also provide linkages to other supportive agencies, crisis hotline response, case management and assistance with walk-in domestic violence clients.
Domestic Violence Crisis Intervention and Advocacy
- Assist with and or complete Temporary Restraining Orders for DV/SA clients or significant others
- Ensure client’s immediate safety on acute cases of DV/SA by providing community resources for immediate needs
- Provide criminal justice advocacy and court accompaniment
- Provide client information and referrals to outside support agencies
- Conduct client follow up and case management
- Provide on-site advocacy and accompaniment to Law Enforcement on Domestic Violence cases
- Perform crisis intervention and support that includes performing de-escalation techniques and assessment to effectively refer clients to resources and supportive services
- Provide safety planning at initial contact with clients and monitor safety risk throughout case progress
- Crisis hotline response and intervention
Department Administrative and Community Support
- Client case tracking and file creation
- Prepare and submit timely and accurate statistical reports for grants and funding sources
- Present to trainees on domestic violence and client support during Volunteer Sexual Assault Advocate
Training and other agency presentation needs
- Attend partner and community meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or related field required
- 1-year experience in working with trauma survivors required
- Strong writing and communication skills required
- 1-year experience in training facilitation and or public speaking required
- Current dual certification as an advocate in following fields: Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence and/or Human Trafficking required.

Pay: $30.00 per hour
