Full job description:
Job Focus: The Patient Financial Counselor (PFC) is responsible for offering financial advice and assistance to patients and families regarding medical bills. This role acts as a liaison between patients, insurance companies and the medical group caring for the patient. The PFC, working with the patient, will coordinate payments, answering questions and working towards finding resolutions for payment for services provided.

Expectations For Success:

  • Will coordinate with the scheduling team for upcoming patient encounters where financial obligations are unmet, calling ahead of the scheduled appointment to discuss options.
  • Will report to the department leadership patient accounts where financial obligations were unsuccessfully met for next steps.
  • Assists patients and families to secure payer sources including insurance coverage, based on need.
  • Follows the organization’s financial clearance and financial assistance policy and procedures.
  • Communicates with the patients and insurance companies on the phone.
  • Appropriately document and report payment information
  • Educate patients about payment options and financial assistance.
  • Negotiate and strategize patient payment arrangements.
  • Update patient account balances
  • Review and process patient and insurance company forms
  • Review pre bad debt accounts for third party placement
  • Responsible for Point of Service collections, service estimations and documentation

Physical Environment:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds.

Core Talent Essentials:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of experience working in financial advising, customer service, claims processing, collections, admitting, patient accounting, prior authorizations or pre-registration preferred.
  • Knowledge of insurance process and medical terminology preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CMS regulations
  • Honors and sets high expectations for patient confidentiality and customer service in accordance with NBMC’s
policies and procedures and HIPAA requirements
  • Advanced level of industry standard electronic medical record content
  • Must have professional level skills in MS products such as Excel, Word, Power Point.
  • Proficient application of business/office standard processes and technical applications

Salary : $36,200 - $45,900
