Position Summary:
Registered Dietitian will integrate into multidisciplinary bariatric and metabolic diseases clinic providing patient assessment and education. Dietitian will be responsible with physician supervision for pre-operative nutrition assessments, identifying and making treatment recommendations for pre-existing nutritional deficiencies. Dietitian will be responsible for post-operative nutrition surveillance helping to identify and treat macro and micro-nutrient deficiencies that arise after bariatric surgery. Dietitian provides education to patients to improve health, well-being, weight-loss, and diabetes management in both individual patient encounters and group settings.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Nutritional Education:
- RDNs educate individuals on diet and nutrition, helping them make informed choices about their food intake.
- They assess a patient’s nutritional needs both pre-operatively and post-operatively, considering factors like health conditions, dietary restrictions, and personal goals.
- Dietetic Planning:
- RDNs develop personalized dietetic plans for clients.
- These plans aim to improve health outcomes, manage specific conditions, and maintain overall well-being.
- Counseling and Coaching:
- RDNs provide counseling and lifestyle coaching to tailor their nutrition programs effectively.
- They work closely with clients, monitoring their progress and adjusting plans as needed.
- Bariatric nutrition evaluations in preparation for surgery.
- Collaboration:
- RDNs collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- They contribute to patient care plans, ensuring optimal nutrition and positive outcomes.
- Documentation and Assessment:
- RDNs maintain thorough documentation of patient assessments, nutritional histories, and progress.
- They evaluate responses to therapy and adapt plans accordingly.
Education/Certification/Licenses/ Degrees:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Food & Nutrition or Dietetics.
- Completion of approved coordinated undergraduate program, dietetic internship or approved master’s program with qualifying work experience.
- Registered dietitian or eligible for registration- must obtain registration within 1 year.
- Licensed as a Dietitian in the State of Oregon
- Must have or be able to obtain an Oregon Food Handler, Food Manager Certification, or SERV Safe Certification within 30 days of hire.
- Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics preferred.
- Certified Diabetic Educator (preferred)
- Certified Nutrition Support Specialist (preferred)
