What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Relations Counselor position at North Dakota Corrections & Rehab?
Summary of Work
Positions in this class provide case management, crisis intervention, and group therapeutic counseling services to individuals, families, and clients at the Grand Forks County Jail that focuses on building skills to prepare residents for their release. These services include the assessment and treatment of complex cases such as mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
Duties and Tasks
Interview clients to collect information necessary to evaluate the need for services and make appropriate recommendations for programming.
Provide direct case management, group counseling, individual skills work and/or individual therapy to clients who have substance use disorders, sex offenses, history of violence, and/or severe mentally ill, as assigned.
Coordinate or facilitate appropriate therapeutic services to clients through the use of community service providers.
Aid clients in utilizing offered programs and applying the skills learned to affect successful transition into the community.
Prepare and maintain case records for each client according to appropriate reporting guidelines and licensure standards.
Provide training, evaluation, or supervision of other staff and/or students in the counseling field as needed.
Participation in clinical staffing department meetings, both in person and virtually, along with regular consultation with supervisors regarding client needs, treatment planning, and providing ongoing recommendations for clients as needed based on behavioral observations.
Serve as a liaison or reference/coordinator for children/families for necessary community services; monitor services for continued applicability.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in one of the following disciplines: social work, counseling (including addiction counseling), psychology, criminal justice, or sociology and two years of professional therapeutic counseling experience; or a master's degree in one of the listed fields.
Preference will be given to those with a master's degree in counseling or social work
