We are seeking someone with a knowledge of plants who can adapt and learn the fine art of gardening and general landscaping practices with our company. The ideal candidate would like to make a professional career out of gardening and is interested in the seasonality of work that comes with living in Northern Idaho.

North Idaho Fine Gardening is a group of professional gardeners, designers, and horticulturalists with varied backgrounds, education, and certifications. We employ strong, energetic individuals who have a working knowledge of perennials and shrubs, enjoy being outdoors, have an eye for detail, and a keen interest in gardening. We are excited to be seeking an experienced lead gardener to manage one of our garden crews for the 2024 season and beyond.

Our work is based out of Sandpoint, and we are a specialized company that offers high end groundskeeping- we do NOT mow. This is not an opening for a lawn crew, nor do we care for turf. We are looking for someone who has the ability to lead, has a passion for gardening, enjoys working with plants on every level, and loves being outdoors. Must have a good attitude!

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plants, transplants, fertilizes, applies OMRI organic chemicals, waters, prunes, and weeds flower beds and plant areas.
  • Lead a garden team in the maintenance of flowers, perennials, trees, and shrubs.
  • Follows garden maintenance checklists and documents the details of site visits.
  • Manage staff in executing installation of plants and container garden designs
  • Plants and propagates bedding plants; may manage greenhouse operations, as applicable.
  • Picks up and disposes of litter in garden beds.
  • Review timesheets, offer training, and lead safety talks on and off the job site
  • May assist in various maintenance activities as required like drip irrigation upkeep.
  • May operate a motor vehicle to transport materials and equipment, as appropriate to the position.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • May mulch garden beds using a wheelbarrow, and spread using a rake.
  • Trim shrubs and trees.
  • Planting may require digging or using a planting auger.

The ideal candidate would possess:

Two years of experience in horticulture, including landscape maintenance or nursery/greenhouse operations, or thirty (30) credit hours in horticulture or a related field. Professional experience in the field working and gardening, planting, and pruning experience as well as a strong knowledge of perennials, annuals, and shrubs is required.

Those who are certified as a Master Gardener, hold a certification in permaculture (or other), or experience working on a farm, are encouraged to apply.

Required:

You must be able to perform basic gardening tasks of bending, lifting up to 50 lbs and work in all outdoor elements. No lift restrictions please.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
