Responsible for the daily nursing operations in assigned unit. Accountable for all functions, activities, training and education of all nursing staff on the unit. Has overall responsibility of the nursing care that is delivered to the residents. Delegates the coordination and implementation of resident clinical services to the Care Coordinator. Follows established regulations mandated by the state of Minnesota, CMS, and policies/procedures established by North Ridge. Must be pleasant, respectful and courteous to resident, families, visitors and fellow employees at all times.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Plans for and organizes the daily operations of assigned unit. Responsible for direction and supervision of nursing staff.
- Responsible for daily staffing assignments.
- Manages productive nursing hours for assigned unit.
- Reports budget deviations monthly to Administration.
- Completes all nursing staff evaluations.
- Conducts monthly staff meetings.
- Attends scheduled meetings: daily meeting with DON/ADON and manager meeting
- Complies with facility policies and procedures and enforces them with staff.
- Provides over site and supervision during meal service.
- Attends family conferences as scheduled/or delegates responsibility to Care Coordinator.
- Responsible for follow-up and resolution on family concerns and/or complaints.
- Delegates quarterly care conference participation to the Care Coordinator.
- Assures that all new nursing staff is oriented to the unit and that orientation paperwork is completed and submitted to Human Resources.
- Assures that all Nursing Staff complete required continuing education.
- Keeps nursing staff abreast of changes with policies and procedures.
Maintains resident care with compliance of North Ridge Resident Care policies, Nursing policies and procedures, Resident Bill of Rights, state and federal regulations, and Quality Assurance Nursing Standards.
- Delegates the organization and delivery of resident care to the Care Coordinator.
- Delegates Nursing Standards to Care Coordinator. Assures monthly standards are completed timely and accurately. Assures that a plan of correction is implemented.
- Assures that resident condition changes are reported to the Physician and/or Nurse Practitioner, family members and appropriate interventions are implemented.
- Assures that the medical records of residents are accurate and maintained.
- Completes discharge summaries.
- Assures that resident care plans are individualized, are followed accordingly, and updated with changes.
- Oversees and ensures the recommendations from Resident Rehab Rounds and Falls meeting are followed.
- Investigates reported and/or suspected vulnerable adult incidents. Reports all vulnerable adult issues to the Associate Director and/or Director of Nursing. Notifies CEP/MDH per policy and procedure.
- Assists with direct resident care as needed.
- Oversees and ensures EMPIRA projects are implemented and followed.
- Assists with resident emergencies as needed.
- Submits completed pharmacy indicators to the Pharmacy Committee chairperson monthly.
- Compiles and monitors Unpredictable Event Forms, checking for accuracy, completion, and investigated timely.
- Oversees the infection control practices of the unit and that Infection Forms are completed.
MISCELLANEOUS DUTIES:
- Responsible for the Care Coordinator's responsibilities in their absence.
- Directs resident care for entire facility on scheduled weekends and holidays.
- Directs all staff for entire facility on scheduled weekends and holidays.
- Follows job description of Facility Nursing Supervisor on weekends and holidays.
- Job functions and responsibilities are defined as full time and working every fifth weekend.
- Provides supervisory duties on off shifts during pay period.
- Provides monthly report to Administration.
- Participates on committees as assigned.
- Attends appropriate meetings and in-services.
- Establishes good public relations; acts as an agent of the facility.
- Exercises confidentiality of resident information. Compliant with all HIPPA regulations.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
- Exercises initiative and judgement in the performance of job duties.
- Practices good safety habits.
- Responds to resident calls in the Assisted Living and Apartments as assigned.
- Reports all pertinent information that involves the well being of the resident to the DON.
- Registered Nurse with current registration with the Minnesota Board of Nursing.
- Current certification in Adult CPR.
- Two or more years of nursing management experience.
- Two or more years of experience in geriatric care.
- Must incorporate all aspects of nursing in total resident care and in accordance to standards of care.
- Be able to develop and implement systems to enable residents to meet their highest practicable level of functioning.
- Must possess strong clinical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to perform all other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Must be able to perform physical job demands of position.
- Exercises confidentiality to ensure compliance with all HIPAA regulations.
