Position: Distribution Coordinator

Qualifications:
The ideal Distribution Coordinator for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank understands and is passionate about the organization’s mission to provide nutritious food and grocery products to nonprofit organizations and individuals in Northeast Iowa. This individual will be a vital component of the Food Bank in the fight against hunger by providing over 9.4 million meals annually to the over 34,000 food insecure people in Northeast Iowa. This team member must show an outstanding ability to safely transport products to be picked up and delivered to agencies and programs in our 16-county service area. A passion for social justice and compassion for others are keys to being a staff member at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. The Northeast Iowa Food Bank strives to work as a unified team to close the Meal Gap in northeast Iowa. To this end the Distribution Coordinator will need to be capable of working as a team, as well as being a self-starter. In addition, maintaining a positive outlook will play a large role in being a motivator and encourager for the community, clients, and staff members alike.
About the Job:
The responsibilities of the Distribution Coordinator include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Utilize pick lists to locate items for partner agency orders, pick accurate quantities and build cohesive pallets.
- Navigate inventory management system to locate product, make systematic moves, and complete the warehouse activity plan.
- Operate warehouse equipment to replenish pick locations and assist with inventory put-away.
- Maintain proper record keeping and reporting of all required documentation.
- Load and unload all types of transportation equipment for daily deliveries (semi, straight trucks, vans, etc.).
- Safe handling of all warehouse equipment including pallet jacks, dollies, and forklifts.
- Report all warehouse incidents timely to reduce future incidents.
- Ability to navigate and learn numerous technology channels (email, inventory system, scanners, tablets, etc.)
- Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by the Northeast Iowa Food Bank in accordance with AIB and Feeding America standards, in addition to local, state and federal regulations.
- Greet, train and supervise volunteers as well as share the mission of the NEIFB; provide general guidance of project; assure proper training of volunteers to include specific jobs and safety concerns. Communicate frequently with volunteers to ensure they are satisfied and appropriately placed.
- In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency, NEIFB is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all its employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties.
- Other duties as assigned to meet food bank needs.
Ticket/Specifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Iowa Driver’s License (known as Class C Operator’s License)
- Ability to operate Pallet Jacks, Forklifts and another warehouse equipment
- Forklift Certification required within 90 days of employment
- Ability to work in hot to cold environments, including warehouse, cooler and freezer
- Ability to follow all food safety policies required by NEIFB
- Ability to be SERV Safe Handler Certified
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions
- Ability to read and understand pick sheets and invoices
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work independently and with staff to achieve objectives
- Ability to stand, sit or walk for long periods of time
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
Preferred:
- Class A or B CDL license or Class D Chauffer’s license
- SERV Safe Certification
- Forklift Certification
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position operates in both a typical office environment, in the community, as well as in the warehouse and requires use of a computer and other office equipment, such as phones, calculators, computer printers and copy machines and the ability to operate manual and automatic pallet jacks, pallet wrapping machines, cardboard baler, and cleaning equipment. This position also requires occasional nights and weekends so the ability to travel and work remotely in various environments is a necessity.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The position operates in a variety of settings both in and out of the Food Bank such as office desk, cooler, freezer, warehouse, and volunteer workrooms as well as a variety of locations in the community. Ability to communicate in a clear speaking voice in person, before large groups and over the phone. Ability to interpret instructions and questions when asked. Routine travel to meetings, functions, and special events is normal, which requires driving. The person in this position must be able to move pallets of food using pallet jacks, stay on their feet for up to four hours at a time, and work in the cooler and freezer. The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry objects up to fifty pounds.
