The Northeastern Retail Lumber Association, a regional association of retail lumber dealers and associated companies, seeks a driven individual with interest in legislative work to be their next Government Affairs Coordinator. A good candidate can work independently and in a team environment. The Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Government Affairs on many projects including legislative meetings and lobby days, ABMA, and action alerts, but will also take the lead and serve as the point person for many projects such as the OSHA safety grant, all lobby days, and managing the Yard Tours for NRLA and ABMA members.

A good candidate has an interest in legislation and public policy as well as interpersonal connections. This position has many growth opportunities, including becoming a subject matter expert on various legislative and regulatory issues the point person for state legislative committees.

NRLA is currently mostly remote with staff covering the office to answer phones and accept deliveries on a rotating basis. In the near future, we will be back in the office 2 days a week.

Job Responsibilities

The Government Affairs Coordinator is responsible for:

· Managing social media for the American Building Materials Alliance, the federal arm of NRLA.

· Assembling weekly ABMA newsletter, the Advocate.

· Managing state and federal lobby day planning and logistics.

· Writing and editing documents such as press releases, regulatory comment letters, action alerts, and letters to the governor.

· Compiling and writing content for the weekly NRLA newsletter, Wired.

· Managing grassroots initiatives including Yard Tours, District Office Visits, and action alerts on legislation.

· Managing the New York OSHA safety grant.

· Monitoring regulatory changes at the state and federal level.

· Helping prepare email blasts to members on various legislative and regulatory topics.

· Writing articles for ABMA Advocate and other NRLA publications.

· Receiving, editing, and posting monthly state lobbyists updates.

· Preparing documents for monthly legislative committee meetings.

· Managing ABMA website.

· Assisting with the annual Legislative issue of the NRLA Magazine, Lumber Cooperator.

· Helping to write and submit social media post requests for state legislative activities and meetings.

· Attending and assisting with the NRLA annual Expo in December.

· Attending state and local events in our region as needed.

Qualifications

· 2 or 4-year degree in related field including public policy, communications, writing, political science, or similar field.

· Strong writing skills.

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Experience

· Legislative experience and/or knowledge.

· Event planning experience.

· Beginners’ knowledge of Adobe InDesign.

· Experience with Mail Chimp and Word Press.

· Experience with VoterVoice.

· 1-2 years of professional work experience.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year

Salary : $45,000 - $55,000
