Job Description


The Institute for Human Development (IHD) is an interdisciplinary unit and the oldest Institute at NAU. IHD is a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) emphasizing four core function areas: Research and Evaluation, Interdisciplinary Education and Training, Community Service, and Information Dissemination.

The Arizona Technology Access Program (AzTAP) is a project within IHD and offers a comprehensive set of programs and services statewide. The Inventory Assistant Manager position will have primary responsibility for overseeing the management of AzTAP Assistive Technology (AT) device inventories, assisting AzTAP’s AT Specialists with preparing equipment for device demonstration and equipment loans as well as purchasing and inventorying new AT devices.

Inventory Management - 50%

  • Serves as the primary device inventory manager for AzTAP.
  • Orders, receives, and processes new equipment into inventory. Labels devices and components, stores and organizes items appropriately.
  • Performs equipment/device inventory updates in inventory management systems.
  • Maintains existing devices, perform equipment/device updates, troubleshooting, minor repairs, routine maintenance and coordinates necessary vendor repairs.
  • Retrieves and prepares inventory items for AT Specialists to use for demonstrations, ensuring all component parts are present and that the devices are uin working order.
  • Prepares devices/equipment for client loan to be shipped to clients. Packs equipment prepares shipping labels and schedules shipment pick-up.
  • Processes returned equipment. Unpack, verify, test/repair, sanitize items and return into inventory.Ensure all component parts are present and that the devices are in working order.
  • In coordination with Reuse Coordinator or AT Specialists and Program Director manage the pick-up/drop-off of equipment along with the disposition of outdated or obsolete equipment.
  • Maintains equipment vendor database.
  • Tracks and reports equipment with NAU property control numbers and/or items identified for surplus.
  • Coordinate with and support community partner agencies whose programs have AzTAP equipment/devices on long term placement. Assist them with managing their AzTAP-placed equipment updating/repairing equipment/devices as needed and inputting usage data into AzTAP’s data collection system.

Financial Support - 30%

  • Communicates and coordinate with vendors to purchase equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Monitors and orders equipment management related supplies: e.g., shipping supplies, equipment storage items, peripheral items such as batteries, tools, and other supplies as needed.
  • As directed by the AT Analysts and/or Program Director, obtain price quotes/estimates for assistive technology products under consideration for purchase and with supervisor approval, purchase AT items adhering to NAU purchasing processes.
  • Tracks purchases and ensures deliveries are completed.
  • Maintains accurate expense allocations for equipment purchases.
  • Uses departmental purchasing card for approved expenditures.
  • Completes regular reconciliation of purchasing card transactions in accordance with purchasing card policies and procedures.
  • Tracks AzTAP AT purchases according to AT Act, Grant and Contract requirements.
  • Serve as back up for office Service Teams travel and purchasing requests.
  • Ensures that required data is accurate and is inputted into AzTAP and IHD data collection systems (NATADS/ NIRS) within established time frames.

Project Support and Coordination - 10%

  • Distributes, collects, and processes applications, forms, surveys, and documents related to AT device usage.
  • Provides input into the creation of demonstration and training materials.
  • Completes NAU Information Technology Support (ITS) Checklists (and accompanying NAU Contract Signature Request (CSR) when necessary) for all staff and AT loan/demo inventory software purchases.
  • Supports and assists with AzTAP/ADE AT Maker events and other training activities as needed.
  • Participates in other educational events such as webinars and vendor trainings to stay informed of AT trends and new product/service development.

Community Outreach - 5%

  • Communicates with volunteers, clients, vendors, external stakeholders, constituents, and/or community partners.
  • Assists with equipment for events, service projects, and/or recognition in relation to the program.
  • Represents AzTAP and provides public awareness on program and services at community events when requested.
  • Travels (with prior approval) on an as needed basis to all regions of the state to provide assistive technology support services consistent with AzTAP’s mission.

Other - 5%

  • Attend meetings, trainings and other events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


  • High School degree.
  • 1 - 2 years of relevant experience.
  • A combination of related education, experience and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Community College coursework.
  • One year of experience purchasing assistive technology devices, medical or therapy related equipment.
  • 3 years’ experience working in the human services field and/or directly with people with disabilities.
  • Experience managing equipment inventory.
  • Experience with data entry for program record keeping, management and data reporting.
  • Experienced Microsoft Office Suite user (Word, Excel, PowerPoint.)

Background Information


This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary


Salary range begins at $41,421. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.


FLSA Status


This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
