Job Description

Role Summary

The Labeling Technician will engage in proper labeling of specimen collection containers (e.g. test material containers, fluid collection tubes, cassettes, cage cards, etc.). This position is responsible for understanding protocol and SOP requirements as they pertain to labeling and must possess basic computer literacy. This is a non-exempt role that is eligible for overtime after 40 hours in a work week and has no supervisory responsibility.

Role Responsibilities

  • Create labels for specimen collection containers using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or other appropriate means.
  • Manage labeling change requests
  • Verify specimen container labels to the work schedule and document as needed per protocol and standard operating procedures (SOP) using good laboratory practices (GLP).
  • Manage multiple concurrent deadlines
  • Operate labeling equipment and perform routine maintenance, as needed.
  • Maintain clean and organized laboratory spaces and equipment.
  • Work cross-functionally to identify and resolve labeling inconsistencies
  • Other duties as assigned

Role Requirements

  • High School Diploma required. Associate's degree preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office core applications and the ability to learn and use additional applications required.
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize work and function efficiently in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory operations and the importance of comprehensive data collection preferred.
  • Ability to multitask and manage several independent projects within the expected job role

Special Requirements

  • The role will spend approximately 25% in an office setting and 75% in the laboratory. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
  • Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including respirators.
  • Physical activity includes lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying (up to 40lbs for up to 50 feet), pushing/pulling (up to 75lbs force).
  • Ability to work beyond typical work schedule including evenings, weekends, and extended shifts with short notice on an as needed basis.
