As we continue to grow and expand our service offerings, we are looking for a Staff Veterinarian to join our team.
The Staff Veterinarian will participate in the strategic and day-to-day development of Veterinary Services at NBR while leading the provision of clinical care for animals used in the conduct of research studies within the test facility in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Attending Veterinarian to ensure facility is in compliance with all applicable regulations, guidelines and standards that relate to animal care and use (E.g. USDA, FDA, AAALAC).
- Provide routine and/or specialized veterinary care including preventative health, medical care, and clinical surgery for non-human primates (NHP's), swine, dogs and rodents.
- Preform colony management duties such as quarantine processing, study related physical exams, neurological exams, weekly case rounds and peri-operative care.
- Provide support for activities of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), including protocol review, program review and facility inspections. May serve on the IACUC committee.
- Assist in the development, review, revision, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) relating to animal issues.
- Consult and collaborate with Study Directors, Surgical Scientists and Research Technicians regarding animal care, health, welfare, and treatment.
- Assist in the development and leadership of the veterinary team including but not limited to scheduling, personnel actions (hiring, promotions, compensation), discipline, development, and performance evaluation.
- Develop and deliver training for staff.
Qualifications and Experience
- Veterinary Degree (D.V.M/V.M.D.)
- State of Michigan Veterinary License
- Controlled Substance License
- ACLAM eligibility or accreditation preferred
- Experience in Research/Lab Animal/GLP Environment
- Knowledgeable of small and large animals used in research
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $95,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
