RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Selects proper technical factors for individual patients. Selects and operates equipment and systems as specified in operations manuals, procedure manuals, and as directed for the purpose of medical radiological imaging for patients presenting for routine or acute MRI and/or MRA procedures.
2. Operates MRI equipment to adequately perform all head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine, extremity, and any other scan protocols. Performs venipuncture and bolus injections of MRI paramagnetic contrast media via pressure injector, and/or by hand. Cleans MRI zone IV and all MRI safety equipment, pads, and pressure injector.
3. Operates film printer, HIS/RIS, and PACS Network devices adequately to produce required scan images. Uses PACS & tele-radiology effectively.
4. Provides the Radiologist with pertinent patient history for contrast selection and ensures signed consent is obtained after patients are informed about the risks involved. Assists physician in administering MRI specific paramagnetic IV contrast media. Provides radiation protection in accordance with written safety standards.
5. Practices aseptic and isolation techniques to prevent cross-contamination.
6. Individual Image Reject rate must be less than 5%. Successfully pass annual competencies.
7. Deals with patients in a courteous and timely manner and provides a friendly reception.
8. Willingly rotates within the section by shift and assignment as required or directed, including call and holiday rotations. Performs basic clerical duties and transports patients as necessary to maintain adequate patient.
9. Performs magnetic safety screenings on all patients before they enter the MRI scanning zone. All associated documentation is assembled, and all screenings forms and consents signed prior to the study.
10. Coordinates with other imaging areas and sections for patients having multiple studies.
11. Promotes a positive working atmosphere within the section. Willingly participates in balanced work and call schedules for the section. Participates in any real time and emergency relief and call duties in MRI.
12. Will actively participate in any section or Departmental Performance Improvement activities and other section or departmental related activities as directed by the Radiologist(s) and/or the Director of Imaging Services.
13. Demonstrates the appropriate skills and ability, based upon the scope of practice or level of training, to assess, treat, and/or care for the patient based on the age of the patients determined by the age specific job requirements of the position. Such patient populations would include the neonate, pediatric, and the geriatric adult.
14. Assesses patient imaging needs for sequencing, equipment selection and settings, and scheduling.
15. Responsible for MRI related QC/QA functions and documentation to ensure the services meets all applicable state and federal guidelines and quality standards. Procures supplies for the section, and verifies equipment operation to meet patient service needs at the Technologist level.
16. Directly responsible for patient safety as patients enter the 4 MRI safety zones/magnetic zone.
17. Adheres to the hospital policies and procedures for recognition, treatment, and reporting of abuse and neglect incidents. Adheres to the hospital policies and procedures for the use of restraints. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures in regards to pain management. Assures all legal compliance aspects of the job are satisfied.
MISCELLANEOUS
1. Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures those related to compliance, general and patient safety, infection control, ethical conduct, and personnel policies & procedures.
2. Maintains acceptable attendance which includes providing proper notification and advance notice for absence/tardiness. Returns from breaks & lunch promptly.
3. Ensures strict confidentiality of patient and NRH information at all times.
4. Assumes responsibility for attending all required in-service education classes including safety update program.
5. Works cooperatively and as a team player with co-workers.
6. Utilizes excellent customer service skills.
7. Performs additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an AMA approved and/or JRCERT and SACS accredited school for MRI or Radiologic Technology.
- Registered in MRI by the ARRT RT(MR).
- Current CPR
- Venipuncture training and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- One year experience in MRI
- Experience in Radiology
