Summary/Objective
Support the operations of the Food Bank through interaction with staff, volunteers and agency partners (customers) to assure responsibilities are handled in a proper and timely manner. These duties cover any of the center’s operations, including planning, supervising volunteers and volunteer projects.
Essential Functions
- Create a climate that promotes a positive volunteer experience with Northern Illinois Food Bank.
- Ensure volunteers feel welcome and fully utilized
- Train volunteers on how to sort and pack product.
- Work with volunteers in the clean room for bulk repacking of product
- Work with Volunteer Coordinator and Processing Department to schedule all volunteer work shifts.
- Assign workloads and ensure performance of jobs.
- Participate in and oversee day-to-day Processing Room operations including set-up of room.
- Handle all reclaimed, food drive and assorted food donations.
- Store inventory and handle for processing.
- Manage clean schedule for Processing Room and equipment, and all processing areas of the warehouse.
- Administer quality assurance program including standards and processes, and tracking.
- Conduct safety training for volunteers and monitor and coach volunteers on safe work practices.
- Is responsible to adhering to the food safety standards established by Northern Illinois Food Bank as outlined by Feeding America and per AIB accreditation. This includes all applicable training.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three plus years’ experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Excellent customer focus
- Effective at giving direction and answering questions.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relationships with volunteers, staff and management
- Effective training skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Basic level skills in Word and Excel. Capable of consistently lifting 50 pounds.
- Certifiable on powered industrial lift trucks.
Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience
- Forklift certified preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not supervise others.
Work Environment
This job operates in a warehouse environment.
- The incumbent will be required to work in extremes of cold, heat and humidity depending on the season of the year, and warehouse location.
The incumbent will be exposed to modest amounts of dust, fumes, gases noise and vibrations.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. This position periodically requires sliding a 60 lb. pallet and occasionally handle boxes up to 75 lbs. This role requires operating devices such as electric pallet jacks and forklifts to safely move and/or stack products and pallets around the warehouse. Capable of consistently lifting 50 pounds.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the "core" work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.
Position Location
This position is based out of our West Suburban Center (Geneva) Location.
