Roller Operator

Job purpose

The Asphalt Roller Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment to compact earth, subgrade, and sub-base asphalt surfaces in the construction of highways and streets. Travel required 25% - 100% depending on the crew. Job posting for the 2023 construction season with anticipated season start in April 2023.

Duties and responsibilities

• Operate construction equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations
• Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment
• Operate the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage of property
• Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and lubricate, refill and clean equipment as necessary
• Understand material thickness, type of material being laid, and material temperature for determining rolling range
• Assist paving crew with hand rolling, manholes, and catch basins
• Operate equipment in various situations, maintaining proper awareness of one s surroundings
• Report need for large repairs to appropriate parties
• All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations

Qualifications

• Minimum one year of asphalt roller experience
• Experience on multiple pieces of construction equipment is preferred
• Possess a valid driver s license
• Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment

Working conditions

• Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
• Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises
• May be required to work 50 hours, 6 days a week

• Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
• Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
• Standing, walking or sitting for extended periods of time
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
• Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
• Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
