What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Dietitian position at Northern Inyo Healthcare District?

The Clinical Dietitian is a Registered Dietitian (RD) with at least one (1) year of preferred acute care experience.

  • Conducts and implements complete nutritional assessments using the Nutrition Care Process to provide evidenced-based recommendations for nutrition related medical conditions
  • Evaluates nutrition assessments and recommendations for effectiveness
  • Develops recommendations for enteral and parenteral nutrition support
  • Provides nutrition education and counseling to patients, patient’s families and patient’s caregivers
  • Collaborates with patient and facilitates active participation to assess needs and resources to establish mutual nutrition related goals
  • Work independently providing basic nutrition care in non-specialized and specialized areas
  • Communicates nutrition recommendations effectively to medical staff and care team verbally, in rounds and interdisciplinary care meetings and documents in the medical record
  • Maintains compliance with employee policies, procedures and employee health requirements.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Directly responsible to the Chief Medical Officer
  • Works closely with registered dietitians, kitchen staff, clinical staff

OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS:

Works in the general hospital setting. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissues as well as patients in varying stages of infectious states.

  • Conducts, implements and evaluates nutritional assessments using the Nutrition Care Process
  • Enteral and parenteral recommendations, therapeutic meal or supplement recommendations
  • Provides Medical Nutrition Therapy to patients, topics include but are not limited to diabetes, kidney disease, cirrhosis, malnutrition
  • Communicate to kitchen staff patient’s needs and preferences

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • The Mission, Vision, and Values of Northern Inyo Healthcare District;
  • NIHD policies and procedures, including Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, and Confidentiality standards;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical nutrition and therapeutic diets; and ability to assess clients’ nutritional needs
  • Knowledge of ADIME and NCPT procedures

Skills/Abilities to:

  • Skilled in medical terminology, including knowledge of the appropriate documentation for completing written assessments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with employees, participants, and the public.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with NIHD staff and the public;
  • Establish and maintain professional working relationships with NIHD staff at all levels as well as the public;
  • Develop and maintain a high degree of maturity, integrity, and good judgement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience: One (1) year healthcare experience desirable


Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in food science, nutrition, and/or dietetics

Certification: Certified by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a Registered Dietitian


Preferred:


Bi-lingual preferred, Spanish speaking
