Description

POSITION TITLE: FAMILY ADVOCATE

REPORTS TO: Site Manager

FSLA CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

Hourly rate:  $14.68 to $17.89  

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  The family advocate creates, provides, and coordinates services and activities with families and communities that foster strength, healthy living, and overall well-being. They also provide support in a case management style and act as a liaison between families, staff, the community, and other family-related services. The family advocate encourages all family members to become advocates for their children and family.

RESPONSIBILITY:

  1. Works collaboratively with staff and community agencies to support the needs of families and children enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start
  2. Works closely with staff to ensure contract requirements are met
  3. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and verifies backup data for contract as needed
  4. Make appropriate referrals for families to community agencies and ensure proper followup services
  5. Assess family needs and help families establish shortterm and longterm goals in the areas of housing, health, public assistance, hunger, and parenting. Assist families develop action plans to complete family goals
  6. Assist the Head Start and Early Head Start program with recruitment and enrollment activities
  7. Assist with parent workshops. Coordinates Head Start Parent Meetings
  8. Maintains organized files on each participant
  9. Works closely with center staff and monitors files to ensure Head Start mandates/performance standards are being met
  10. Schedule and conduct weekly conference with teachers and other component staff for the purpose of referrals, family situations and follow-up and feedback
  11. Works closely with center staff to conduct home visits twice a year per family
  12. Coordinates and conducts health screenings
  13. Collect volunteer time sheets weekly from assigned classrooms and submit to the Family Service Manager
  14. Tracks all family service requirements
  15. Track hearing and vision screenings and other screenings as needed
  16. Attends meetings as directed
  17. Other duties as assigned by the manager

 

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:    

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Computer skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and/or provide transportation to fulfill job responsibilities
  • NKCAC-Head Start cannot employ anyone who has been found by the Cabinet to have abused or neglected a child
  • Ability to work with people of diverse and varying socioeconomic backgrounds

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have the ability to stand/walk/run after young children 100% of the time
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs up to 50% of the time
  • Ability to sit at, read, and enter data on a computer for prolonged periods of time up to 75% of the time.
