Come join us at the leading edge of clean diesel technology! Northern Lights Power & Energy is the west coast distributor for MAN and Nanni high performance diesel engines. 

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for diagnosing and performing all repairs on customer owned equipment in the field. This will include troubleshooting, overhaul, cleaning, inspecting and assembling parts in pleasure and/or commercial marine environment. Must be skilled with mechanical and electrical tasks and own a complete set of hand tools. 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Perform maintenance and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, and diesel systems on a variety of customer equipment and tools while using a high degree of independent judgment.
  • Responsible for service documentation, and training of lower-level technicians, when necessary. 
  • Ability to accurately order needed parts from vendors, and travel to customer sites.
  • Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests; identify worn out and damaged parts.
  • Correct diesel engine deficinecies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assembiles, components, parts or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission. 
  • Complete required paperwork to reflect hours within each job.
  • Must be able to adhere to a regular work schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Ability to understand the importance of time management, standards of operating procedures, owner’s manuals and product/warning labels.
  • Must possess solid written and verbal communication skills and be able to perform basic computer operations.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must exhibit a high level of safety consciousness and a clear understanding of equipment safety.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed on short notice.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have experience dealing with customers in difficult situations, good phone etiquette, and the ability to function in fast-paced environment. 

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma and/or equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • Must have an equivalent of no less than Two years’ experience with technical repairs on diesel engines. 
  • Strong technical/mechanical skills and experience, and diesel product knowledge required.
  • Post-secondary vocational education strongly preferred.
  • Systems Certified.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. 

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate with customers and must be able to exchange accurate information. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing most of the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 70 pounds. Must be able to detect parts and machinery from a distance and up close.

Tool Requirements

  • This jobs requires the employee to supply a complete set of hand tools.
