Northern Metal Fab, Inc. is a versatile custom fabrication “job” shop where our welders are exposed to manufacturing of many diverse products. Along with custom fabrication and tooling, we specialize in air & bulk handling, commercial marine, industrial vehicles, and water treatment to name a few. Northern Metal Fab, Inc. has a new opportunity for a Quality Assurance Technician (QA Tech). The QA Tech is responsible for validation of quality of each project before shipping to the customer. The QA Tech must have significant knowledge of the American welding Society (AWS) and NACE codes. The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate experience in a similar position.
The skills required for this position include:
- Perform internal inspections to determine if a weld meets the acceptance criteria of a specific code, standard or document
- Interpret codes and specifications in accordance with the drawing requirements
- Perform visual inspection of work in progress and completed work from approved utility repairs
- Monitor welding processes such as gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux cored arc welding, and shielded metal arc welding, and plasma arc welding and assure they are performed in accordance with qualified procedures
- Verify and document welder qualifications
- Verify the compliance of base metals with the applicable specifications
- Appraise welding joint designs and joint preparations for compliance with drawing
- Verify proper fit, cleanliness, and environmental conditions
- Verify tack weld quality
- Assure proper control and handling of welding consumables
- Assure the product's conformity to drawings and specifications
- Verify cleanliness and weld surface quality
- Oversee repair activities
- Interpret, evaluated, communicate and report findings
- Communicate with Project Manager and required team members and track all NC’s
- Aide in training (Robotic weld, welding certifications, and as needed)

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 2-year welding certificate preferred
- Extensive knowledge of industry standards including AWS and ASME
- 1 years of experience in welding inspection
- Current CWI certification preferred
- Ability to lift 25lbs. unassisted, bend stretch, stand for extended periods of time, work in inclement weather
