Purpose of this position

To prepare and provide food service to residents in a cost-effective, efficient manner to safely meet residents’ needs in compliance with federal, state and local requirements

Qualifications

  1. Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  2. Cannot have been convicted of any crime related to any services to be provided under this job description, including, but not limited to moral turpitude, assault or violence.
  3. Must be able to speak and understand the English language or a language understood by a substantial portion of the facility’s residents.
  4. Physical ability to perform job-related duties, which may require lifting up to 50lbs, standing, bending, transferring, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing and pulling.
  5. Possess personal qualities making it possible to maintain good interpersonal relationships. Ex: respect for each person as an individual, kindness, and loyalty.
  6. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  7. Must be able to work at any Northfield Retirement Communities Long Term Care, or Assisted Living facility as assigned.

. Responsibilities 

  1. Sets up and stocks food items and other necessary supplies.
  2. Prepares food items.
  3. Cooks food items by means necessary to specified-recipes and standards.
  4. Performs inventory checks.
  5. Accuracy and speed in executing tasks.
  6. Ability to work as a team member.
  7. Follows directions and instructions.
  8. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  9. One - Two years experience as a line cook, restaurant cook, or prep cook.
  10. Familiar with industry best practices..
  11. Maintain cleanliness of dining room, coffee bar, and kitchen area, following sanitation procedures.
  12. Assist in the proper care, use and cleaning of kitchen equipment.
  13. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge for safe use of kitchen equipment.
  14. Store food in compliance with dietary procedures.
  15. Prepare residents’ diets in accordance with diet orders and daily menus.
  16. Assist the food service manager to determine the amount and type of food necessary to prepare the daily menus.
  17. Prepare food, which is palatable and pleasurable in taste and appearance, at the same time taking care to avoid food waste.
  18. Completely fill out all daily meal count sheets; to include meal counts for medical center, assisted living, main dining room, and trays.
  19. Attend in-service training programs for food service employees.
  20. Observe all facility policies and procedures.
  21. Assume Quality Assurance duties as assigned.
  22. Details interior areas on a regular basis using general cleaning tools and equipment (i.e. broom, mop, vacuum, etc)
  23. Ensures a safe, clean environment for residents and co-workers.  Initiate corrective action.
  24. Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
  25. Accept and complete assignments timely, cooperatively and accurately.
  26. Consistently work cooperatively with residents, and staff.
  27. Come to work in a neat, clean uniform with nametag and gait belt and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance.
  28. Come to work as scheduled and demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
  29. Assume accountability for data contained in the employees’ handbook.
  30. Observe infection control procedures.
  31. Follow Resident’s Rights policies.
  32. Perform other duties as assigned.
