Custodian / Maintenance Team
This part-time position is a ministry of the church that focuses on cleaning and maintaining the facilities of Northminster Presbyterian church. As part of the Maintenance Team, this individual ensures that all public facilities are clean and ready for daily use. This person supports staff and volunteers during special events and substitutes for other team members on vacation or sick leave. To be successful in this position, this person will be a proactive, efficient church custodian who possesses an understanding of proper cleaning methods and a respect for the religious and cultural beliefs of others.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain clean church facilities by performing weekly duties and daily spot cleaning in all public areas of the campus, including bathrooms, Sanctuary, kitchens, meeting rooms, classrooms and outdoor spaces; including emptying trash between and after room use.
- Work with other maintenance team members to ensure all areas are cleaned, stocked and maintained. (Changing light bulbs, restocking bathrooms, etc.).
- Prepare and set up rooms for use (moving chairs, tables, equipment) as needed.
- Maintain and make repairs to facilities, equipment, furniture, and other items.
- Provide and ensure secure access to buildings/rooms (opening and closing – locking buildings, gates, etc.).
- Assist with preparation and set-up for holiday worship services and special events
- Operate floor cleaning equipment to clean and sanitize floors, carpets, rugs.
- Assist with preparations and provide custodial support for weddings, memorial services and receptions.
- Check-in and engage with after-hour groups upon arrival. Assist as needed.
- Prepare beverage service (coffee, water, lemonade) for groups, as requested.
- Drive church van to pick up supplies (Sam’s, Home Depot, Ace, etc..) or Caridad Meals as needed.
Qualifications:
- Possesses cooperative spirit and works well with team members.
- Has general working knowledge of routine repairs (plumbing, electrical, carpentry).
- Very good physical condition and strength, able to lift 50 lbs.
- Willing and able to work on ladders.
- Able to work independently and complete tasks promptly.
- Attentive to detail and willing to take the initiative.
- Ability to work and interact comfortably and positively with staff, church members, visitors, children, and other outside groups, including people experiencing material poverty.
- High school diploma is preferred but not required
- Clean, valid driver’s license required
- Cleared through a background check and E-verify. (The church will submit this).
Terms:
As stated in the Letter of Appointment. Non-exempt, part-time, hourly, 12-month appointment, averaging 22-25 hours per week. Weekend work required. Position renewable and subject to Northminster's Personnel Policy and Employee Handbook.

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
