DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
Northshore Food Bank is non-profit organization that provides nutritional food assistance to food insecure households in St Tammany Parish. We are seeking an experienced and innovative Development Director to lead our fundraising efforts. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who is passionate about making a difference in their community.
General Description
The Development Director is responsible for leading all development activities within Northshore Food Bank (NFB) in effort to raise necessary funding for organization operations and its nutritional programs. The position develops, implements and monitors a comprehensive fundraising plan to expand philanthropic support of the organization – including identifying and strengthening relationships with community stakeholders, actively pursuing and managing corporate and individual leads, foster strong donor and sponsor stewardship, and seeking, applying for and managing grant funding, and oversight of production of internal NFB fundraising events. This position also represents the organization with the business community and community organizations promoting the mission to all organization audiences.
The Development Director directly supervises the development staff team.
Salary commensurate with experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and execute a comprehensive annual Development Funding Plan which maintains the fiscal health of the organization and provides future financial resources for growth and expansion. Including but not limited to grant writing and management, corporate major giving, annual appeal development and management, third party events, and internal events.
- Manage portfolio of donors through use of donor database and tracking tools.
- Prepare and present regular reports on progress toward fundraising goals.
- Develop strong relationships within the community that foster a positive image such that will make Northshore Food Bank a local charity of choice for funding.
- Act as primary point of contact for funding, donations and fundraising event inquiries.
- Oversee production and execution of NFB internal fundraising events – offering management and production oversight, as well as timeline, budget and evaluation management.
- Oversee branding, image and messaging in all organization materials. Including production of all marketing and promotional materials, and public relations efforts.
- Design and produce annual giving campaign, as well as auxiliary marketing, promotional and outreach materials.
- Acts as an organization representative with businesses and community organizations promoting the mission and the goals of the community.
- Speak on behalf of organization with media outlets as needed.
- Perform networking at selected community and leadership events.
- Provide leadership to development team, including Development Associate, Development Coordinator and Marketing Coordinator.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong interpersonal, verbal communication and presentation skills;
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading ability;
- Customer service, communication and recordkeeping experience required;
- Able to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines;
- Solid organizational, time management and project management skills required;
- Initiative and collaborative skills indicated;
- Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds.
Qualifications
- 5 years experience in fundraising and nonprofit event coordination, including significant success with major gifts, corporations and foundations;
- Applied understanding of basic fundraising principles and development best practices;
- 3 years management experience with previous leadership or management in social service agency preferred;
- Experience in designing and implementing fundraising strategies, as well as cultivating and stewarding relationships with corporate donors;
- Proven track record of meeting annual fundraising goals and successfully securing corporate sponsorships and partnerships, demonstrating excellent communication and negotiation skills;
- Must be results oriented, strategic, and possess a deep understanding of the local business community to effectively identify and pursue potential sponsors/donors;
- Experienced in building and maintaining media relationships;
- Proficiency in MS Office including Word and Excel, development databases and social media;
- Experience with online fundraising, email marketing, and internet research;
- Possess approved state licensure to drive company vehicles;
- Flexibility for evening and weekend hours required on an event basis.
