Job description
Northwest College Support works alongside college-age students and individuals who are developing skills needed to live healthy, independent lives. At NWCS we provide an environment for change, guiding our students in the areas of education, mental health, life skills and overall wellness.
The Education Coach/ Life Skills Support position works one-on-one with students, teaching, coaching, and modeling skills that foster increased independence in the home, classroom and community. NWCS coaching ranges from academic support, to hygiene, sleep habits, nutrition, cooking, clean environments, different types of exercise and fitness plans, health practices, social skills, financial literacy, and more. This position will function as part of a team that collaborates with each student to create an individualized plan that supports student growth and increased independence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Start Date- August 2024):
- Work with students individually and in small groups to support their educational journey.
- Provide instructional support and academic mentoring to young adult students
- Support students and facilitate their individual learning at varied levels of education (GED, workforce training/ technical education, remedial coursework, and college/ university)
- Provide individual and group learning in the areas of living environment, budgeting, meal planning/ cooking, social skills, etc.
- Collaborate with a team to provide creative and sustainable interventions for our students
- Monitor student progress, grades, schedule and upcoming school related events (i.e. tests, projects, papers) and communicate this progress to students, team members, therapists and directors.
- Lead education based groups to teach executive functioning skills to our residents.
- Implement project based learning opportunities
- Transport residents to scheduled activities (i.e. volunteering, school, and work)
- Support students according to the core values of NWCS
- Attend all scheduled trainings
- Maintain resident confidentiality
- Learn and follow NWCS policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned by Program Director
Position Requirements
- 21 Years of age
- Bachelor's Degree in Education (or related field)
- Teaching certification
- Experience in Special Education; SPED Endorsement, preferred
- Strong desire to help people; high level of compassion and empathy
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive environment, supporting people of all backgrounds
- High level of professional maturity, resiliency, and good decision making.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work on a team.
- Valid driver’s license
- Able to pass Health and Welfare Background Check
- Maintain 20 hours of annual training
Salary/ Benefits: $45,000-$57,000 annual; health, vision and dental insurance; paid time off; maternity/ paternity leave; $1200 annual education stipend (after 90 days), your birthday off, and a fun work environment!
