TITLE: Elementary Physical Education Teacher: Lakeland and Mill Creek Elementary Schools REPORTS TO: Principal JOB FUNCTION: The teacher shall serve as the education leader of the classroom. DISTRICT DESCRIPTION: Elk Rapids Schools has approximately 1,200 students and is located in the northwest lower peninsula. Our families enjoy the benefits of living in an area thriving on tourism as most of our district is surrounding beautiful lakes, trails, and recreational areas. The District has preschool classrooms with additional preschools available within the community. There are two PreK-5th grade elementary schools, one 6th-8th grade middle school, one 9th-12th grade high school, and extensive alternative education opportunities. Career and technical education opportunities, as well as several Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment college courses, are available. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Establish a classroom structure that values positive relationships through intentional implementation of the district curriculum and the vision of high-quality instruction. ? Establish a classroom culture that supports non-academic needs of all students in order to remove barriers that interfere with academic success. ? Organize and implement a physical education program to promote development of student’s physical attributes and encourage a healthy lifestyle. ? Design and implement a wide variety of appropriate instructional activities for students of varying abilities and talents. ? Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities. ? Plan, prepare and deliver lessons and instructional materials that facilitate active learning. ? Observe and evaluate each student’s performance and development. ? Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment. ? Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction. ? Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students, provide appropriate feedback on work, and use information to adjust teaching strategies according to student need. ? Maintain accurate and complete records of student’s progress and development. ? Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations. ? Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs. ? Participate in collaborative and collegial department/grade level, school, district, and parent meetings. ? Must be flexible and organized with a willingness and ability to teach a variety of aged students while effectively managing large classes of students. ? Organize and maintain inventory of school-owned equipment and instructional materials. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates should skillfully demonstrate the following competencies: ? the strong desire and ability to build meaningful, caring relationships with students; ? the ability to motivate students and influence student behaviors; ? the willingness and capacity to hold ongoing instructional-specific conversations designed to focus conversations and efforts on improving student learning; ? the commitment to coordinate instruction within and across grade levels; ? the competence to collect and analyze data to inform instructional decisions; ? the ability and desire to design and utilize formative assessments to modify and adjust instruction on a daily basis; ? the ability to help create and thrive in a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork, and accountability; ? the ability to seek out knowledgeable peers, coaches and/or administrators for instructional support in the never-ending quest to deliver the vision of high-quality subject-specific instruction in every class period every day. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Required: ? Bachelor's Degree or higher in Education ? Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate (Elementary K-8 All Subjects or K-5 All Subjects; K-8 All Subjects Self- Contained Classrooms) Preferred: ? Previous classroom teaching experience. ? MB, MX, or MC endorsement. .
