General Summary of Duties: Responsible for assisting 2 physicians and 3 midlevel providers with patient care, clerical, and organizational tasks. Conveys a positive image of the practice.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and maintain proficiency in the use of the Practice Management Systems, AthenaNet.
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; performing allergy testing and pulmonary function test; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physicians with various procedures; obtaining consent forms; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information, post-operative follow-up with patients and communication prescriptions to pharmacy.
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/CT/MRI reports, Sleep lab results, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments/tests; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately, contacting patients regarding upcoming appoints and documenting charts information regarding scheduled tests, labs, and prescription information.
- Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to the scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms. (This list may or may not include all of the duties assigned)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Requirements)
- Knowledge of healthcare field and medical specialty. Willing to train.
- Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical specialty.
- Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
- Knowledge of legal responsibilities relating to patient confidentiality.
- Skill in performing tasks appropriately.
- Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions.
- Skill in understanding of patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
- Skill in operating all office/medical equipment.
- Skill in answering the telephone in a helpful and pleasant manner and using a multi-line telephone system.
- Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care.
- Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
- Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks.
- Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
Education:
- Certified LPN or MA
Experience:
- Minimum of one year work experience in a medical office setting preferred.
Pay: According to experience range is $18- $27/hour
