Founded in 1913, Northwest Nazarene University is a comprehensive Christian university with over 80 undergraduate areas of study, 18 master’s degrees in six different disciplines, five Education Specialists degrees and two doctoral degrees. NNU has more than 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 6,000 continuing education students and more than 10,000 high school students who participate in the University’s concurrent credit program. Description of Position
The Director of Career Development at Northwest Nazarene University has oversight of the university’s career development programming and resources. The Director is responsible for establishing and managing quality and comprehensive career services to undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni in various phases of their career development process. The Director is a direct report to the Associate Vice President for Student Life and resides in the Center for Student Life and Calling. This is a 11-month, full-time exempt position.



Essential Functions (Career Development)

  • Provide career advising, coaching, career development events in multiple ways and modalities
  • Create and disseminate career development content through websites, classroom presentations and workshops
  • Maintain records for tracking student engagement, contacts, placement, and outcomes
  • Develop and manage relationships with key institutional partners, and faculty to identify learning opportunities
  • Communicate Career Development services to students, faculty, other campus personnel, employers, and the community
  • Partner with the Center for Academic Success and Advising to teach the career classes for academic credit (currently STSK1810 and STSK3710)
  • Administrate all employer engagement activities, including the cultivation of new recruiting relationships
  • Represent NNU to a wide variety of community organizations.
  • Facilitate on-campus recruiting programs for internships and employment opportunities
  • Manage day to day operations of Career Development - department budget, policies, and procedures
  • Supervise support staff (e.g. Student Services Coordinator) and student employees
  • Maintain oversight of the university’s career management system (Handshake)
  • Oversee all Career Development service and resource contracts
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Essential Functions (Student Life)

  • Oversee university budget for Career Development
  • Assist in the planning and execution of LEAD Retreat and Freshman Retreat
  • Support New Student Orientation activities

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, communications, or related field
  • Proven interpersonal skills including the ability to listen and communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Requires strong presentation, program planning, organizational and creative problem solving skills.
  • High proficiency with Internet applications, Microsoft Office Suite software applications with ability to learn new computer software programs
  • The University requires that all candidates be Christians (preferably in the Wesleyan tradition), and must be comfortable with, in agreement with, and able to represent the mission and lifestyle values of NNU to all constituencies

Preferred

  • Experience in Career Services, Human Resources, or Student Life
  • Experience in utilizing career counseling techniques and assessments
  • Teaching/presentation experience
  • Current knowledge of NNU or Christian higher education
  • Experience with Anthology and Handshake or similar career development platforms
