Purpose Statement: The Early Childhood Classroom Coach serves as a supportive mentor for classroom teaching staff to guide them towards developmentally appropriate teaching practices and individualized professional development goals.

1. Work in collaboration with mentor teachers, center managers, area managers in planning and support teachers for assigned area(s) or classrooms.

2. Utilize Practice Base Coaching components for the purpose of assessing needs, engaging in focused observations, and providing reflection and feedback to set goals and develop action plans.

3. Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested or after analyzing data that identifies a need.

4. Provide guidance, support, implement, follow up and classroom management strategies.

5. Perform observations of Head Start classrooms, rating the environment, materials, equipment, safety, interactions, and School Readiness for assigned area.

6. Approve educational materials, supplies and curriculum for classrooms

7. Maintain CLASS reliability, trainer certification and MMCI trainer certification

8. Responsible for administering, entering, tracking, and analyzing professional development needs for assigned staff.

9. Participate in on-going training sessions and meetings to share current research and trends in the development of preschoolers.

10. Support, plan and implement intervention programs by observing and meeting with teachers.

11. Provide follow up support to staff following any form of training for the purpose of increasing implementation of information and transfer of skill into practice.

12. Promote and execute reflective practices.

13. Provide encouragement and emotional support to teachers by providing constructive feedback and support for learning and growth.

14. Meet regularly with the Early Childhood Education Manager, assigned Mentor Teacher(s), assigned Content Manager(s), and plan together effectively.

15. Manage time and schedule flexibility that maximizes teacher schedules and learning through utilization of Coaching Companion, conference calls, and online platforms.

16. Observe classrooms utilizing classroom assessment scoring system (CLASS); analyze data of scores to create a staff improvement plan.

17. Work positively toward meeting identified individual and program improvement goals for teaching staff.

18. Develop and maintain a confidential, respectful relationship with teaching staff by building on the strengths of individuals and enhancing areas that need improvement.

20. Complete weekly coaching logs for assigned visits and submit them to Early Childhood Education Manager for the purpose of meeting program requirements for tracking and monitoring.

21. Support mentor teachers, all teaching staff in understanding the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework by providing training and follow up.

22. Provide training for new staff on Making the Most of Classroom Interactions.

23. Responsible for keeping up with Professional development needs of assigned teaching staff by tracking, monitoring and documenting progress.

24. Willingness to work in the classroom as needed in event of staff shortage or classroom management.

25. Possess an understanding of when to contact center manager regarding issues of safety/ethics involving children in classroom observed.

26. Serve as education consultant to teaching staff, pre k partners, and mentor teacher. Able to provide immediate corrective action to teaching staff for inappropriate teaching practices.

27. Provide training and technical assistance in Early Childhood Education for staff as needed.

28. Mentor and support classroom teacher to create a developmentally appropriate environment that meets requirements of classroom assessments.

29. Support and assist teachers to ensure curriculum is implemented to fidelity. Responsible for completing fidelity for assigned classrooms.

30. Analyze training needs of education staff and recommend the following but not limited to workshops, classes, books, articles, site visits and on-line training.

31. Support and assist teachers to implement a developmentally appropriate and culturally sensitive program that supports the child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.

32. Facilitate and monitor the implementation with fidelity of the developmental assessments utilizing reports generated from Cognitive Toy Box.

33. Regularly check children’s folders for required documentation for education.

34. Provide current updates on curriculum and assessments to governing board and policy council as requested.

35. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor as this job description is in no way intended to include all responsibilities of the position, but rather to provide a general overview of what is expected of the position holder.

36. Collaborate with the Health and Disabilities Manager to ensure training for Head Start/Early Head Start is inclusive of education and health.

37. Maintain all Head Start Performance Standards.

38. Attendance is an essential function of your day-to-day responsibility and commitment to the program.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.18 per hour

Experience:

  • Classroom Teaching: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Training Adult Learners: 1 year (Preferred)
