What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Therapist position at Norwood Crossing?
Our Music Therapist must lead music therapy groups and have the ability to observe the response of persons participating in the group to determine appropriate modifications. He/She must be able to provide individualized and group therapeutic sessions to Residents based on psychosocial needs or interdisciplinary team referral.
The schedule for the Music Therapist is Tuesday-Saturday.
Duties:
- Maintain a clean, neat appearance and wear the appropriate uniform or attire.
- Must observe Resident attendance, mood, behavior, and degree of involvement so that facility activities and resident progress are evaluated by noting, reporting and charting resident behavior during groups or sessions.
- Ensure that all charted musical therapy progress notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided and indicate the resident's response to the service.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information (HIPAA).
- Maintain a neat and clean work environment.
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel.
- Coordinate activities with other departments as necessary.
- Involve the resident/family in planning musical therapy sessions, objectives and goals when possible.
- Coordinate and plan groups as a part of an expressive arts team consisting of dance and movement therapist(s) and art therapist(s).
- Participate in the community planning related to the interest of the facility and the services and needs of the resident and family.
- Must participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of activity care plans and resident assessments.
- Perform administrative requirements, such as completing forms, reports, etc., and submitting such to the Director of Life Enrichment as required.
- Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Experience working with older adults preferred, but not required.
- Musical Experience of 1 year is preferred
- Able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions and to accept constructive criticism.
- Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
- Leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel
- Patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
