Description
Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums and related oral structures in a manner consistent with professional standards and local, state, and federal law. Specific duties include: designing, making and fitting prosthodontic appliances such as space maintainers, bridges, and dentures; analyzing and evaluating dental needs to determine changes and trends in patterns of dental disease; examining teeth, gums, and related tissues, using dental instruments, x-rays and other diagnostic equipment to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities, and plan appropriate treatments; advising and instructing patients on preventative dental care, the causes and treatment of dental problems, and oral health care services; writing prescriptions for antibiotics and other medications; treating exposure of pulp by pulp capping, removal of pulp from pulp chamber or root canal using dental instruments; performing oral and periodontal surgery on the jaw or mouth; administering anesthetics to limit the amount of pain experienced by patients during procedures; removing diseased tissue using surgical instruments; filling pulp chamber and canal with endodontic materials; performing dental extractions; training, mentoring and supervising students and clinical support staff as appropriate; and performing other dental and management duties as required.
Qualifications
The minimum requirements for this position are a DDS or DMD degree and a State of Vermont Dentist License or a foreign degree, or combination of U.S. and foreign degrees, equivalent to DDS or DMD and a State of Vermont Dentist License.
