About Notre Dame Mission Volunteers AmeriCorps (NDMVA)
NDMVA teams work with local partners to increase access to education and other essential social services. By collaborating with local organizations, NDMVA aims to make a lasting impression on the lives of individuals and families in the region. As a member, you will serve at Alcott Elementary School for 10.5 months, September-July, part-time, providing essential support to elementary school students.

About Alcott Elementary
Alcott Elementary School is a public school located in San Diego. You will be supporting students from 9:30am-1:30pm with reading, writing, and math skills.
Position Duties
- Support staff with small group academic support to increase reading, writing, and math skills.
- Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching
- Maintain an open channel of communication with program staff and select administrative staff
- Operate in a collaborative work environment
- Attend trainings and participate in meetings as necessary.
- Provide timely responses to assignments.
- Encourage school engagement among TK-5th students by supporting in small group and individual academic support
- Provide support to students who are struggling academically
- Support with tracking student progress and reporting progress to Student Study Team: (e.g. Behavioral/social-emotional support
- Support staff with structured activities during recess and lunch
- Under supervision of school counselor and other other relevant school, personnel the AmeriCorps Student Education Fellow will provide extra support to certain students who have been identified by counselors/administration
- Attend Student Study Team meetings in order to report student progress and gather student information to inform student support (academic and social-emotional).
- Ensure all District policies and state regulations are met
- Collaborate with Site Supervisor to address challenges and advance toward goals
Examples of supports include,
- Supervising and facilitating student use of Alcott's "calming corner," a designated area provided to students with tools needed to support self-regulation under the supervision of an Alcott staff member.
- Prompting students to apply self-regulation strategies in-class
- Teaching and modeling positive conflict resolution skills in-class and at recess under the supervision of an Alcott staff member.
- Supervise and facilitate group activities during recess in order to support social skills development under the supervision of an Alcott staff member
Qualifications
- Preferred college experience/degree
- Bilingual Spanish speaking is a plus
- Experience working/volunteering with youth in schools or community is a plus
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $1,512.00 per month
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
