Position Summary
Reporting to the Internal Audit Manager or the Senior Internal Auditor, the Audit Specialist position is responsible for conducting audits for the Gaming Commission to assess the effectiveness of internal controls, accuracy of financial records, and efficiency of casino operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Conduct audits of documentation, examine departmental records, and interview casino employees to ensure accurate recording of transactions and overall compliance with applicable internal controls and regulations.
- Examine casino department activities for compliance with management objectives, Internal controls, policies and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiencies, processes, procedures, and company performance.
- Provide ongoing reporting to executive management and share best practices on areas to improve efficiency in operations.
- Inspect accounting system to determine their efficiency and protective value
- Analyze data obtained for evidence of deficiencies in controls, duplication of effort, fraud or lack of compliance with laws, government regulations and management policy and procedures.
- Prepare and submit audit findings in a concise and professional format.
- Recommend steps the operation might take to ensure full compliance with departmental internal controls, policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Audit various non-gaming areas and departments (Indian Preference in Contracting Code, Tribal Preference in Hiring, etc.).
- Develop a conceptual understanding of all FireKeepers Gaming related jobs, their functions, and maintain working knowledge of all FireKeepers Internal Controls.
- Participate in the development of Gaming Commission objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- AS or AA in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or equivalent experience related to Audit/Compliance.
- Knowledge of general accounting principles and audit practices.
- Administrative, organizational, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of record keeping/documentation procedures and practices.
- Recognition of regulatory terminology with the ability to interpret and apply Tribal, Federal,
- State, local and other relevant laws, regulations/codes, and internal controls. *
- Navigation and utilization of personal computers, software such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Pro, as well as general office equipment.
- Willingness to initiate contact with people, as in the course of conducting audits, e.g. interviewing, fact-finding, etc.
- Willingness to learn and navigate computer programs necessary to track gaming activity and verify information in the course of an audit.
- Preservation and protection of sensitive information while maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Work and function well in a team setting as well as independently.
- Attend training and travel as required.
- Successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
- Meet the suitability standards necessary to obtain and maintain a Gaming License.
- Training in lieu of experience may be substituted contingent upon successful post-training application of newly acquired skill set.
