POSITION SUMMARY
The Gaming Investigator is responsible for conducting all enforcement and compliance activities of the Compact between the Huron Band of the Potawatomi Indians and the State of Michigan, Gaming Regulatory Act, and the Regulations. Observe and at times report on the operations of the casino's activities including, but not limited to casino layout, casino games, casino equipment, casino personnel, patrons, and other areas of the facility relating to casino operations. Investigate criminal activity of a felony nature that is related to Casino Gaming in FireKeepers Casino.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi reserves the right to change, amend, add, delete and otherwise assign any and all duties, responsibilities, and positions titles as it deems necessary to meet the needs of the government.
  • Work directly under the supervision of the Investigations Manager.
  • Periodically inspect casino cards & dice.
  • Observe casino operations to assure compliance with Gaming Regulations.
  • Periodically observe Table Games & Slot Drops to assure compliance.
  • Observe the inspection of gaming equipment by casino staff.
  • Place seals (security tape) on approved Slot Machine software & CPU boards.
  • Examine a random sample of slot machine MEAL Books to ensure entries are made when door is opened.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all applicable Commission policies, directives, administrative rules and regulations.
  • Maintain a close work relationship with the Investigations Manager or designee coordinating investigatory, compliance, and enforcement activities.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement
  • Officers as necessary to conduct and assist in investigations and activities effectively.
  • Obtain working knowledge of the casino employees' job responsibilities and duties.
  • Obtain thorough knowledge of FireKeepers Casino’s Internal Controls.
  • Monitor, document, and report Internal Control compliance violations to Investigations Manager.
  • Remain apprised of current and emerging issues at FireKeepers Casino.
  • Develop and maintain detailed and current knowledge of gaming compliance and enforcement activities.
  • Complete all compliance & enforcement work and reports with the maximum amount of proficiency, effort, and accuracy.
  • Comply with all Audit Program tasks as assigned by Investigations Manager or Audit Manager.
  • Comply with performance appraisal activities.
  • Comply with all scheduled training.
  • Comply with the goals and activities established in conjunction with performance metrics.
  • Conduct regular, timely, and thorough testing of electronic gaming devices and other gaming equipment as required.
  • Conduct gaming compliance and enforcement operations at FireKeepers Casino.
  • Obtain proficiency in the utilization of the Gaming Commission computers, software, hand held radios, and other job related equipment.
  • Strictly comply with all applicable statutory and regulatory duties imposed upon Gaming
  • Investigators.
  • Receive and process Gaming related complaints and disputes.
  • Provide assistance to the FireKeepers' guests regarding Commission business (Voluntary exclusions).
  • Advise Investigations Manager of all matters impacting the Commission and FireKeepers Casino.
  • Perform daily administrative functions.
  • Answer internal and external inquiries as needed or directed.
  • Facilitate coordination among all federal, state and local law enforcement entities when necessary.
  • Maintain optimum level of integrity and professionalism.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
  • Maintain a clean and professional work environment.
  • Document Investigations activities in the Daily Activity Report.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications: An individual must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent and at least 2 years of College level study in Criminal Justice, Information Technologies, or discipline related to working as a Gaming Investigator to be determined by NHBP Gaming Commission Executive Director or their designee. College requirement may be substituted for work experience based on specific department needs to be determined by NHBP Gaming Commission Executive Director or their designee.
  • Ability to apply conflict resolution skills to resolve issues with FireKeepers’ employees, FireKeepers guests, and NHBP Gaming Commission staff.
  • Perform licensing responsibilities as required.
  • Ability to objectively and promptly analyze issues.
  • Ability to conduct Criminal Investigations.
  • Ability to conduct Investigative Interviews/Interrogations effectively.
  • Ability to develop thorough knowledge of the application of Criminal Law.
  • Knowledge of covert and overt investigations.
  • Strong administrative and communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and monitor the essential functions of the Player Tracking system utilized at FireKeepers
  • Casino. Ability to develop thorough knowledge of Commission rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to develop knowledge of intelligence gathering, rules of evidence and court proceedings.
  • Ability to develop familiarity with the application of Statutes, Administrative Rules and Policies and
  • Procedures.
  • Ability to comply with confidentiality requirement pertaining to Casino and Commission business.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Successfully pass a background investigation.
  • Successfully pass drug testing as required by the Commission.
  • Adhere to the Commission policy prohibiting Commission employees from gambling or drinking alcoholic beverages at FireKeepers Casino, Commission Offices, or in any other jurisdiction regulated by the NHBP Gaming Commission.
  • Successful report writing Skills.
  • Ability to use computers on a daily basis to work with various computer related software programs.
  • Including; MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, GLI Verify, Internet, GLI Access, BMM database, Eclipse database and any other computer based software programs or related equipment (Compliance Testing Equipment -adapters, card readers, and related equipment) needed to complete tasks.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Native American Gaming Industry experience is preferred or Casino Experience (Surveillance, Security, Slot Technical, or IT)
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Native American culture, customs and language preferred.
  • BS, BA Degree in discipline related to being a Gaming Investigator.
