Nourishing Hope, formerly known as Lakeview Pantry, is a dynamic Chicago nonprofit providing food, mental wellness counseling and other social services, such as job and housing assistance, to our neighbors in need. Founded in 1970, we strive to serve the needs of the whole person — with respect and dignity, always.

 

Long known as one of the largest and longest-operating food pantries in Chicago, Nourishing Hope has evolved to become more than a solely a hunger relief organization. We also provide social services, such as job and housing assistance, and free mental health counseling with a growing team of licensed therapists. 

 

Nourishing Hope serves tens of thousands of people each year, providing more than 4 million meals through our programs, in addition to partnerships with other community organizations. This year, more than 5,000 low-income neighbors will also receive case management and social services. 

 

Position Summary:

This position coordinates the Home Delivery Program, which serves 850 people with home-delivered food every month. The Home Delivery Program Coordinator oversees and ensures a fair and organized system for food distribution. They supervise all aspects of procurement, storage and distribution of goods. Primarily works out of The Hub location (5151 N. Ravenswood) Tuesdays & Fridays from 9:30AM-5:30PM, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:00AM-4:00PM, Thursday remote working. 


Essential Job Functions:

  • Independently train and supervise program volunteers through shifts involved in prep, packing, and distribution of home deliveries, including on-site within neighboring senior buildings.
  • Assist the Manager of Home Delivery in growth and expansion, as well as improving efficiency of the program.
  • Engage in phone outreach with clients for screening, program overview, enrollment, and scheduling. Use phone interpretation services to engage with clients using other languages.
  • Act as an ambassador of Nourishing Hope to the larger community, helping the Manager of Home Delivery to develop and further foster relationships with community partners.
  • Collect, store, and distribute food according to Pantry, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Manage inventory and develop healthy menus for deliveries.
  • Maintain Pantry site sanitation that meets or exceeds government and monitoring agencies’ standards.
  • Create and track benchmarks of the program’s success, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Support our different pantry programs at other Nourishing Hope locations.

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience. 
  • 1 - 2 years work experience in customer service, social services or grocery 
  • Experience in community nutrition, public health, or a non-profit a plus
  • Experience working with diverse aging population a plus
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 40 occasionally.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record preferred; access to a car a plus
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Apple operating system experience a plus
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Russian or Polish) preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong human relations skills
  • Creative and motivated self-starter.  
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to handle volatile situations calmly, professionally and respectfully.
  • An understanding of and belief in, the importance of food security for everyone.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and Saturdays.
