What are the responsibilities and job description for the Professional Development Manager position at NPOWER INC?

If you have a passion for helping people grow, develop themselves, and better their lives and their community this opportunity is for you. The Professional Development Manager will be responsible ensuring for that students are career ready when they begin their internships and jobs. They will host professional development workshops, manage a volunteer engagement calendar and manage special events geared toward getting students ready for the workforce. Additionally, this position includes assisting students with resume writing, interview prep and other skills to prepare students for successful interviews and entrance into the professional world. 

 Successful candidates will be self-starters who have a proven track record of success and can lay a strong foundation for helping young adults prepare for their careers. 

 Student Development 

  • Work one-on-one and in group settings with students on developing resumes, LinkedIn profiles, interview skills and professional best practices
  • Help students develop career maps based on interests, talents and professional goals
  • Conduct career readiness workshops on topics such as interviewing, LinkedIn, professional networking, resume writing, etc. 
  • Manage professional development calendar and confirmation/communication of guest presenters for all the San Jose, CA team
  • Support national initiatives such as NPowerMATCH (mentorship program)
  • Escalate career coaching for trainees on action plans as needed 
  • Plan and conduct mock interviews with employer and volunteer partners
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute in-person professional development events
  • Be a contributing and dependable member of the NPower CA Placement team

Administration

  • Demonstrate high organization and communication skills to work with dynamic team and diverse student case-load  
  • Track student records and volunteer engagement in Salesforce database
  • Create relationships with partners throughout Silicon Valley and the Bay area to expand volunteer pool
  • Attend trainee reviews and communicate issues, create action plans, etc. 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • 2-3 years’ experience in career services, youth development, human resources, teaching, or professional development field
  • Exceptional verbal communication, writing and grammar skills
  • Comfort level in public speaking/hosting student workshops
  • Capacity to participate in networking and industry events where opportunities for partnerships may develop
  • A passion for helping people grow, develop themselves, and better their lives and their community
  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Comfort level in utilizing Salesforce or similar CRM program 
  • Experience in working with underserved young adults a plus
  • Event planning and project management experience 
  • Ability and flexibility to travel to designated markets and event
